Love is the solution

Recommended Posts

The whole lesson of life is to learn how to love.   Every cycle of dissatisfaction, discord and disunity  perpetuates itself until we do.

But on a serious note, I'm not sure I agree with your OP. I agree that love is important, and a necessary function in generally short supply in our current state of affairs as a planet as a whole. The world just feels a lot meaner than it did many years ago. But to say love is the solution is too broad and misrepresentational. Repeating cycles isn't ideal, but it's how we learn. Toddlers stumble many times before they learn to stand up and walk, and then run, and grow. And not every problem can be solved by compassion. I have no love for mass murderers or harmers of the defenseless. You cannot stop a bomb by hugging it, or freely extending love to those who would harm you. A lack of love doesn't equal hate. It doesn't perpetuate itself. It just doesn't exist. Love can be blind. Love itself perpetuates acts of cruelty; the term 'crime of passion' springs to mind. I'd argue logic over love, but even logic has it's misgivings. Yes, we need to be kinder to each other. We need to show compassion. We need to care. Hallmark sentiments won't solve the world's problems; if only it were that easy. 😔

Love Song

Dorothy Parker

My own dear love, he is strong and bold,

And he cares not what comes after.

His words ring sweet as a chime of gold,

And his eyes are lit with laughter.

He is jubilant as a flag unfurled —

Oh, a girl, she’d not forget him,

My own dear love, he is all my world —

And I wish I’d never met him.

My love, he’s mad, and my love, he’s fleet,

And a wild young wood-thing bore him!

The ways are fair to his roaming feet,

And the skies are sunlit for him.

As sharply sweet to my heart he seems

As the fragrance of acacia.

My own dear love, he is all my dreams —

And I wish he were in Asia.

My love runs by like a day in June,

And he makes no friends of sorrows.

He’ll tread his galloping rigadoon

In the pathway of the morrows.

He’ll live his days where the sunbeams start,

Nor could storm or wind uproot him,

My own dear love, he is all my heart —

And I wish somebody’d shoot him.

My Work is Loving the World

My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird -
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young and still not half-perfect? Let me
keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,

which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium.
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all ingredients are here,

Which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart
and these body-clothes,
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy
to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
telling them all, over and over, how it is
that we live forever.

this can't be answered without getting the definition how love is meant in this statement.
If you mean the sticky blegh just goodfeeling emotion, it's a big NO.
If you mean the rational deep care for others and genuine will to be there for them its a yes.

Empathy is the solution.

I love often, and deep, and real, but it certainly doesn't solve everything. I wish it did.

Actually, saying any one thing is the solution is too simple.

Empathy covers a lot, though.

empathy * learning * communication = toolset to better find solutions to what can trouble us. Love can be one of those solutions. Understanding and tolerance can be solutions as well

My favourite movies and TV series have characters who start out as bitter enemies and eventually become friends. Ever watched Avatar the Last Airbender? when Aang and Zuko finally team up I got teary. Dang those feels! 😭

Love is the mother of jealousy, suspicion and betrayal. It is a drug, and to sate our addiction we perform the darkest deeds imaginable.
