YES! And even some lights!

I always look at my place in the dark to make sure I haven't missed anything that is on full bright. Full bright is THE evil.

YES! Fullbright = full fugly. 😁 I've seen a few photos of all fullbright interiors, and they immediately give off a 2005 vibe. Sorry. I even supply faux ambient occlusion for my own builds (for textured walls, floors, etc), but I realize that may be a mite too extreme for some folks.

Fullbright still has its place, though, in a few selected areas; most noteably, lightbulbs and such. But overall, I shy away from fullbright.

I have taped off a bedroom window, but you can't tell from the outside (as the face of the blocking prim is 100% transparent on the outside).

That's even better if the blinds is pulled down. It is perfectly normal to have a window covered. People do it all the time if they don't like the view.

Somebody is always going to push the limit, and yeah, we're already seeing it. Just wait until there are 30,000 homes.

Ultimately, it's up to LL to decide if something goes against the theme or not, but also, I do think the community should have a voice, just like when we got the air strip.

I'm actually worried about that. Because I am one of those rare few that didn't want an air strip but it was added anyway. I know we keep coming back to 'can't please everyone all the time' thing, but I really hope we as a community don't get too much of a say in it. For starters, the more opinions there are, the more potential shades of grey we're likely to end up with, and the quicker we're likely to start that slide to Mainland 2.0. Black and white is easier to understand. It's also not likely to garner complaints of favouritism if the same voices are driving/deciding for the majority (as with the air strip).

The covenant is clearly defined, but as far as I'm concerned there needs to be repercussions if you don't abide. And bear in mind *I* have already admitted to breaking the covenant myself, so I'm not even picking on anyone else.

Imagine you get pulled over by the police for speeding and tell the officer "I know the sign said 25 but this car really drives better at 50, and everyone else loves it!" Doesn't really detract from the fact we're still breaking the rules.

Trying this on the way home tonight! 😉

Except, of course, that the Covenant doesn't say the equivalent of '25 mph', but is itself rather vaguely/open-endedly worded, just stating residents should keep their homes "in-theme to their unique areas." Introducing 'repercussions' for infractions to such a broadly defined compliance rule, that just feels way too punitative to me. I think it would suffice, if there really is a problem, that a Linden would give a friendly nudge to change things a bit. No need to go overboard (yup, another houseboat pun 😜).

One persons air strip is another's show home or coffee shop or open house or totally-not-a-club-I-swear or boarded-up-meth-lab-in-a-corn-field-on-fire.

I would not choose to live in a place with a HOA or similar in RL, but Bellisseria is basically that, and I feel like we all agreed to the covenant when we got homes there. So if something about my own place gets reported for being out of theme (I don't think it is, but who knows) then I'd take it on the chin and fix it, or give up my spot and go do something else somewhere else.

I personally feel that the tastefully done little cafés, pubs and even a small post office are in keeping with the theme, but I didn't grow up in subdivision land where there's nothing but private homes in a five mile radius, so I can accept others may feel differently. I will say that the house someone essentially turned into a giant boxy warehouse with crappy siding textured prims was way past whatever line there is.

First, I would love to have a viewer where you can either un-full-bright other's items or where you could click a "no full bright" option viewer wide.

Second, there are a few homes around me that stretch the idea of tasteful with their exterior decorating. Mostly I just de-render all the strange things they put out. (Who wants their entire lot covered in bright orange tile? I will never understand.) But, there is also a house that has a sign proclaiming it as an escort service. I'm not totally okay with that. Seems faux commercial and also not in line with a moderate sim?

Also, feel free to put whatever strange, quirky, or tacky things inside your home that make you happy. I only care if the exterior is excessively unpleasant.

Dag nabbit! I wanted to open the first Bellisseria brothel but it wasn't going to have a sign! It was going to be all hush-hush and elegant with just a tiny red light in one window!

I would absolutely report anyone advertising their place as an escort service.

Most of Bellisseria looks wonderful. External decorations add to it. SMall group transformed into cafe's, meditation spots open to ublic (once again keeping with the flow and decor of the area) adds to it.

What has already happened is people creating claimed authority groups that have harassed residents by telling them what they can and can not have (trust me, Lindens check, I had a religious fanatic harass me because of the Buddhist center, and they appeared and said they loved how it looks and warned the other person).

Being compassionate in talk helps the community learn from each other and make it grow. Arrogance will create divide and isolate you.

The other incident was with a person from one of the claimed Police groups. They harassed people on the roads and Im's, and as a result have been banned. Rping nicely is one thing, trying to gain any authority will result in complaints and removal.

We had a pride parade yesterday that was nice. Had our float in it. However next time it would be better to plan the route along a large square 4 sim route as to many were in one sim to even allow the floats to enter. each sim is set to 59 avi's.

For example, the covenant also states no structure can be higher than 4 meters. I've seen radio towers and trees and sheds/garages and sauna/pool decks and flag poles etc at well over that height, and some even double that.

EDIT: I'm going to add here, that I think perhaps proportion of buildings/height (while good for no camera clipping) makes avatars of average height appear short, and so structures appear tiny by comparison - especially where additional structures are added directly onto the house. One such example is a pergola attached to the rear of a building that cannot be placed at 4m as it will be in line with/partially obscure window and door frames, I had that problem a few times as I set up.

I think this point needs to be clarified for those reading since it is an incorrect reading of the actual rule....  Here is a direct quote from our covenant...

" *Privacy walls or fences should match the theme and extend no more than 4m above ground level. All other structures should not extend higher than 15m above ground level or sea level, whichever is higher. "

So the 4 meter rule only applies to fences or other similar sorts of barriers typically places around the boundary of a parcel....  The next line in that rule applies to things like garages or your random tree or flagpole or pergola....  Those items can be taller then 4 meters they just cannot extend higher then 15 meters above ground level or sea level whichever is higher.... So if your house is sitting on 30 meter ground... then your garage/tree/flagpole could effectively go 15 meters over that.

I believe the myriad ways that people are landscaping their parcels is one of the things that keeps Bellisseria from being boring. Sure, some people will push the limits, but ... this is Second Life, after all, not 'Lockstep Condominiums, where the window side of your drapes all have to be the same approved color'.

I was visiting Calleta the other day, and actually had a bit of nostalgia for the chaos that exists in much of the Mainland.

I have some nitpicks with some Bellesarian residents' items that are just too cute, but I can always de-render them.

I can't wait until people start decorating for the holidays.

The idea of policing your neighbors is kinda crappy to me.  Maybe it's because I work with law enforcement in RL and get sick of the "my neighbor's grass is too long we need the cops" type calls, but it just seems so petty to essentially be taking out a ruler and measuring exactly how far over their parcel lines someone's tree branches are.

Not necessarily seeing that type of thinking in this post, but it did come up in a group discussion a few days ago.  As long as the deco is tastefully done, close to the theme of "suburbs", and not blocking egress or encroaching on a neighbor's plot, why is it our business to care?  How about we work on building community instead of playing neighborhood tattle tale?

Also, full bright is the stupidest thing ever invented and needs to die with clothing layers and default hair.

Add to that the misuse of light in general.

Basic rule of thumb, a tea candle cannot turn a football stadium to full daylight at midnight on a moonless overcast night

I figure it is all for LL to sort out.  Mostly, I only care about what things look like around me.  If I see anything that looks out of character with "suburbia", then I'll report it and LL will decide.

If things get too out of control for my tastes, then I'll switch to living in a skybox above the house.

I think that might depend, too.  Is it a traditional SL escort service with poseballs (lol) and voice?  Or is it just an RP vice type thing like a meth lab would be?

The meth lab was a deliberate (and very creative) attempt to find the line and give it a solid shove. It featured encroachment, animesh guys dancing on burnt out cars, boarded up windows, stereos playing audio loops, face high corn, fire and so on . It was cleaned up over the course of a few days as successive LL staff swung by and camped outside looking at it. The inside is still a meth lab, but as at some point all the doors were closed & locked, if you don't already know where it is you wont find it without am awful lot of camming. It's not an active location, traffic has been zero for a long time.

LOL I didn't know there had already been a meth lab, that's awesome.  We became the real suburbs for a sec :D

I just meant in an RP form (like at a lot of the 'family' RP sims) it wouldn't necessarily be against covenant.  Keep the nudity and sex talk out of public, and make sure no one's actually making a profit, and it just becomes "here is a den of vice and sin to be hated" versus an actual den of vice and sin haha.

I'm curious about whether it's RP or not. I wonder where this little gem can be found on Bellisseria... I'd love to take a look.

Also, nudity is a-ok in public! Just don't do anything that would involve using those exposed bits.
