I simply meant the release of the new premium content and housing etc. I do not use the dashboard or read forums and only got the email about these services after the first batch was released and therefore already gone.

Those were found in less than a minute, and only noticed because I went past with my Map open in the last day or two, so I'm sure there are many more which could better suit your needs.  Perhaps you could consider hiring a Buyer's Agent Realtor (or whatever they are called in SL) to search for you but if they are the same as RL, you will have to pay them a commission. 🙂

I have been looking quite a lot, maybe its an issue because even the old Linden homes do set a high standard for random chunks of mainland to be compared against. They are designed and built for the purpose, and whist they may have their issues, I still think they represent the far better option. The quibble we've been debating here is purely availability.

Premium member for years. Got a houseboat within the first hour of the first release.

OK my feelings on this are very much in the same vein as others who've said whilst some have found ways to get themselves to the front of the line not everyone can do that. I'm not in the SL time zone and suspect (suspect because I am not certain but would like to find out) they're being announced in the dead of my night and are all taken before I wake up. Now please, I am not 'blaming' LL for time and the fact the earth goes around the sun, just highlighting what may seem easy for some isn't for everyone and that maybe that could be taken into account? Again 'constructive suggestion' as opposed to 'complaint' maybe stagger the next batch so that some are released at a time non US citizens are awake? Or provide pre-notification say 48hrs in advance? I admit I don't know the times they are released so if anyone can inform me without scathing personal assault I'd be grateful to find out? Also I agree with Damian I don't think I should have do this but I will look back on what people have said about setting up alerts, and if I can't work that out may come back with questions on how to.

And a notice or email to premium members that already use the housing before an update or release before instead of 2 weeks after would be amazing ❤️ I understand setting up alerts after the fact but you can't really do that about something you dont know about

That's not right. The 2nd batch came around 6 pm German time. The Americans were the stupid ones because they all had to work. And the first batch...it was sold out in 48 hours. You know that. ;)

So those who have never had premium before but signed up at the right time got new houses and those of us who have been waiting patiently for years are reduced to refreshing like crazy for weeks or wait until more are released. All while paying premium prices in addition to now being homeless so that I will be free to accept a new home should I happen to be lucky enough to catch one or more come out.

There are actually many long time Premium members with homes.

Its even more disheartening to see people trying to snap up more homes on their alts as well while alot of us still have nothing.

Every Premium account is entitled to a Linden Home.  Who gets to say what account is a "main" account versus an "alt" account.  I know quite a few so-called 'alt' or 'secondary' accounts that spend just as much time inworld as the supposed 'main' account.

Side note, while I know quite a few people that have 2 homes, myself included, I don't know anyone that currently has more than 2 despite how many secondary Premium accounts we might have.

If I remember correctly, both batches were released in the middle of the day during the week right when Americans are working. I was working from home the day of the first release or I'd have completely missed it as well because it was a much more convenient time of day for most Europeans.

I will concede, though, that an email should have gone out to all premium members at the same time it was released on social media. I can't for the life of me figure out why they didn't do that other than severely underestimating the enthusiasm and demand.

The first batch was released roughly noon-1:00 pm SLT, which is when most US folks were still at work - but most Europeans were probably off work and not yet in bed for the night.  I even had stuff going on after work and didn't know about the release until about 8:00 pm or so SLT.  The Houseboats in the first release were gone in roughly 12-18 hours, but the Houses took about 48 hours before they were all gone.

The second batch of Houseboats did go in less than 30 minutes, but it was a really small release.  However, again, it was released roughly late-morning or noon SLT, which still had most US folks at work and many Europeans at home.  For that release, Patch did give roughly 24 hours notice in the Update thread here in these forums.

I do not use the dashboard

The dashboard feed comes straight from the Blogs, which you can actually follow/subscribe to.  Choosing to pay attention to all LL communication methods might be a good idea.

Thank you so much as this is all that I really meant. I would have hoped to be notified well in advance of new content for premium members coming out and not have to look for or sign up to something else to get that info that obviously many people, including both the brand new and long time premium members who did get the info and therefore a new home

LL has never been great at communication.  Many of us learned long ago that we had to be very proactive in getting information on our own.

You really do not need to stalk the forums, since you can just click the "follow" button on Patch's update thread here, and/or change your settings to get notifications from the SL blog, to have notices of updates delivered to your email.

Yup! Bellisseria is the new Shady Pines ;)

(There is a thread on these forums about Bellisseria being more of a retirement community than "starter homes". This is a community many of us have longed for for many years.)

I must confess I've not read the whole thread, so possibly I've missed something, but I'm having problems understanding why LL is being criticised for releasing Linden Homes during normal office hours in the USA.

As I understand it, all Lindens are now based in the US, whether they work out of the San Francisco office, one of the regional offices, or from home.    So doesn't it make sense to launch something this important when all the Lindens are at work?

When else do we expect them to release new Linden Homes regions, bearing in mind that Lindens have lives outside SL and that they too have family and social commitments and need sometimes to eat, sleep, socialise and relax in First Life just like the rest of us?

I've just started trying for a home, and all I can say is that Meadowbrook must be a wasteland by now.  Guess I'll just sit it out until Monday.

And yes, Onyx, it seems to me that even a lottery system, where you sign up and wait to be notified, would be less painful.  Of course there would be groans about it not being fair for this or that reason, but the system we have now is egregiously unfair also, so yes, I'd opt for unfair and painless, myself!  Maybe all the endless hits to the land page is helping some website stat that LL cares about.

for one try finding this page or any real requisite information on the process...the difficulty begins at the beginning. but that is a constant of the culture: announce a service to the clientelle, and then make the processes so obscure and obtuse that service is almost impossible to access. yes, i've read about 'following blogs', 'release times', and all the rest. how about a bit of straight talk that takes one to the proposed solution?

When you log into the SL website, your very first page is your dashboard. Right smack dab in the middle of that page, at the top even, is a blog feed. There it is... right there. First thing you see. With just a couple of clicks, you can even follow the featured blog and get an email whenever new content is posted. You can also choose to receive a notification in your browser.

Easy-peasy.

A little initiative goes a long way. I don't get breaking news alerts on my phone unless I enable those settings. I don't blame the news apps for not knowing I want to know everything and anything as soon as it happens unless I tell them I want to know.

This is what I see when I log in to the second life website. Not sure what is hard to find about this.  Blog info dab smack in the middle and 'Get Your Home Now' rather prominent on the right side.

Though I will concede that if you don't find a new house on the page, you do have to go hunting for the info if you missed it when it was first announced.

ladies...

i don't need to debate this with you..in fact, you can't take care of my issue...however, when i click on what's 'smack-dab' there, it takes you to what you already own. i can get THERE without coming HERE.

in spite of all that. thank you for your concern. linden doesn't function equally well for all of us....

on that...i'm out.

I sure hope people aren't coming to the forums thinking that other residents CAN take care of LL-related issues. You comment here, you will most likely get replies. That's how forums work. Whether or not you like the replies is a whole other story.

At any rate, the process functions exactly the same for all of us, which is pretty much the definition of "fair".

You have to abandon your land inworld before you'll see any new home options on the website.

Right-click on your land and choose to abandon it. Sometimes it's hard to reach your land so you have to cam in or grab right next to the home.

You know, I live in a town that had the same thing happen in RL.  They renovated an old warehouse district near downtown into a glitzy high-cost showplace, provided it with shiny public transportation, and expected young 'creatives' and successful techies to move in and make it a very youthful, dynamic place.  Instead, bunches of downsizing retirees moved in, and began agitating for a pharmacy, Whole Foods, and a nice flat park to walk their french pugs in and play with the grandkids.   It happens.
