Gifting a modded LL shape on marketplace

Hello, I have modified a copy-transfer-mod shape that was originally a newbie shape made by Linden Labs (Ryan Linden's account). Would it be alright (as in legal) to put my modded version on the marketplace, as a free gift (sold as zero linden dollars)to share with others? I will sell it as copy and mod only, and not transferable.

(The shape was originally created by LL and I'm not wanting to make money from it)

That's a cute shape!

Maybe we should page @Dakota Linden and ask her just in case but I can't imagine there'll be any problems. As far as I know, LL has never published an EULA for the full perm library content and you've modified it so much it isn't really Ryan's shape anymore anyway. You might as well have started with a blank body as with his (which you can do btw, just copy the numbers from the shape edit window to a new shape).

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same but I once made upgraded versions of the Atoll Huts in the library - meshed for lower LI and more details - and I even charged a few Lindens for them to cover the upload fee. LL's reaction was to buy a set of them and they didn't even want their money back when I offered it to them.

(Totally off topic edit: Ryan Linden really deserves more credit and attention than he's got. He wasn't actually a Content Linden at all - he is Philips' chief-of-staff and right hand man - but he still made some absolutely amazing early builds and he was a key figure in the early SL days.)

to avoid it, note the numbers of yours and put it in a new shape you created.

Linden-created things are always free. If you modify it enough it also becomes a "derivative work" and you can resell it. If you want to give away your derivative then that's also perfectly fine to do. Though you will want to be the creator of the new derivative, so to do that you need to edit the Linden shape that you've modified and in a notecard: write down all the numbers for each setting on each tab.

Now create a NEW->SHAPE - you will now have a new, Bento shape with all default settings. Wear that shape and use the numbers you've recorded in your notecard. Now rename the shape (and you are now the creator). So anything and everything with it that you wish, including selling it.

In the end I created a group called Sexy Sorority Sisters to share the shapes I made. I took you advice and recreated the shape, in a shape object called Ellaria that I myself created.
