What OS (except Windows) are you running?

I know that most people here have Windows on their machine. However, I  want to see what other OS you're running most of the time.

I, for example, run mostly Linux: I have Kubuntu 19.04 and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (and Windows 10) on multiboot, running OpenSUSE -- on KDE -- most of the time.

The window design is called SteamPunk, and that nifty clock in the middle of the screen is called TimeKeeper. 😎

For right now, it is just Windows on my PC.  I do have an older computer, an Amiga 1200, which I run Workbench 3.1 on, which I like to play games on.  I also used to run 16.04, that was a while ago though :) Lately I have mostly just been emulating other operating systems.

Workbench, not Amiga OS.

Only Linux users would define each distro as it's own OS

*ducks*

In all seriousness, I'm just envious .. I was a hardcore Gentoo who got lazy and ended up in *buntu land (because rpi mainly) , and then threw the towel in when it transpired that you can't run two dissimilar nvidia cards with their own independent monitors in the same machine, with nvidias drivers because you need *$%^&!* cuda and expect it to just work, or ever work .. no, really really .. and now I'm on a single 2060, I just get random lockups .. so Windows 10 it is, because it does just work and I don't have the time to waste tinkering ... and if I did, I have a more than a few vintage apple boxen than need some love.

When I do waste a few hours, at the moment It's on a Win98/WinXP dual boot lappy and a growing collection of old junk games.

I made the switch to Ubuntu back in 2006, tried various variants of the 'buntu family, like Xubuntu and Lubuntu and finally landed on Kubuntu. I forgot what year it was, but the KDE3 was still current.

I am exclusively running Kubuntu 19.04 (Disco Dingo), will be changing to 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) when it goes alpha, but I plan on changing to KDE Neon on the next LTS, which IIRC should be 20.04.

Windows 10 (1x), Ubuntu 16.10 LTS (1x), Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks (2x) and a whole bunch of phones and tablets with some flavor of Android and iOS. And Symbian on my $15 Nokia. That's current.

Every time I do an update on the Ubuntu, I enlarge the terminal screen, showing all the updates download, unpack and install and my kids go: "Are you hacking something, dad?". After all, to those GenZeers, everything CLI and mysterious unpacking commands scrolling by is nothing short of L33t haxx0ring.

Linux users are mostly snobs. Linus is a good OS but they treat Linux like it’s the second coming of Christ and demand everyone switch to Linux because “ehhhhh Linux ehhhhhh” without considering the needs of the average user which usually don’t involve chickens, blood, voodoo and several prayers to an uncaring god just to get one thing to work correctly.

linux is good, but Mac OS (yes I know it’s unix) is supreme. There is no argument to be had, Mac OS is where it’s at. Sweet, simple, to the point, effective, works. All hail Mac OS.

I used Arch Linux for years and still have Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installed on a general purpose home server. I broke down and installed Windows solely for Second Life, because of the continuing rise of "alpha hair" and how more and more of my friends hair started looking like a mess of triangles. See: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-8801

Maybe someday that bug will be fixed or, more likely, having seen what the fuss is about I'll go back to my old ways. I miss my tiling window manager.

I don't know... since I switched to SuSE Linux 7.1 in July 2001, I've only used Windows to stay up-to-date with this OS. But I've never said to others: "Remove Windows from your computer and install Linux instead", or preached Linux otherwise.

That said, I have shown friends some programs that I knew from Linux. Software like GIMP or OpenOffice (later LibreOffice), Blender or the educational software GCompris. Those who tried these programs were excited and soon preferred them over the more costly Windows alternatives.

Been using Debian(Currently, Debian 9) for several years now. I haven't used windows in years ever since it corrupted it's own bootloader. Had a Debian disk laying around for use with a server, figured "hey might as well, not going to wait a week for my parents to get back from vacation so my dad can bring home a windows install disk from work".

Here is my screengrab.

It IS the second coming of Christ and everyone should switch to Linux but only if it doesn't have systemd.

I haven't used any form of Unix since shortly after Solaris 10 came out.  As the company moved to Linux on Intel workstations I went with the Windows Workstation route. Of the thousands of ports through the main offices, less than 20 were were on the Unix vlan.  It wasn't hard for me to see where the biggest need was.  A few years later, all of Technical Computing (unix/linux) was centrally located some 1000 miles away and delivered to Windows desktop via Citrix.

Which then brought out the jokes: What's the difference between a Unix software engineer and a large pizza?  A large pizza can still feed a family of 4.

I don't know.  Maybe in other industries it's different.

I once used OS2 Warp for my main home computer but that will tell you how long ago that was.  Certainly pre-SL.

And in case anyone in interested, here's a little raw data.

StatCounter-os_combined-ww-monthly-201804-201904.thumb.png.860583802bd80d963a6a9fb67536016b.png

Windows 79.24%

OS X 14.64%

Unknown 3.13%

Linux 1.63%

Chrome OS 1.35%

FreeBSD 0.01%

Just don't compare the framerate for SL on OSX vs Windows7/10 on the same machine.
