Is there away to find the person behind the display name

I am wondering if I have a person's display name, is there a way to get his regular name?

Tali, I'm pretty sure you can search for the display name, and find the account name that way. I just found you by searching for "Talitha," for instance.

Yes.  If you're using Firestorm, try using the Websearch tab, People category, rather than using the "People" tab in Search.

In Firestorm you can turn off showing display names in Preferences/General tab so all you'll see are people's legacy names. You can also have it so you'll see both names over their heads.

Most of the time you can find them about 4 cm underneath the Display Name.

Only if during the time used, it wont come up if they have changed it since, or sesrch would be a nightmare. It might come up in a such and such has changed their name to, but other than that, it is why display names have a minimum week life, so people cant cause chaos and hide.

1 - Display names are not unique.

2 - Once the name is removed or changed you will not find what you seek anymore

3 - Legacy names are shown under the display name in the name tag (if switched on) and my chat logs look like: display name (legacy name) chat text. So I never have questions of who is who.

If that is important for you then you probably are not happy with the LL viewer and if you are already on FS or whatever, take a look at the settings.

If they'd change it so that legacy name is always first then I'd actually turn on display name in my preferences. I can't find anyone I'm looking for in my friends list because of that. So I always call everyone by their legacy name whether they like it or not.

I have preferences set to show both display name and legacy name - which is helpful when you can't read a display name because of fonts, or if you have a friend who often changes their display name.
