Using the latest and Search and most everything else is blacked out. Any help on this?

Using latest version SL v2 and was thinking that Search and other menus should be viewable.  Black background and trim on screen.  No options in preferences anymore for skins.  What's going on and does a fix exist.  Otherwise, its back to the 3rd party viewers for me.

Hi, Kil!  (/me waves) --  Did you log in with the Basic mode,by any chance?  Basic mode is designed to give newbies a gentle taste of SL without all the confusion of inventory, appearance, search, and all the stuff you already know about.  Log out and then select "Advanced" from the login screen when you sign in next time.
