I just bought a new parcel, which I measured out to be 64m x 32m. I have a skybox that I purchased, which is 50m x 30m. This box should fit into my land, however, when I try to rez it I get a message "Can't rez object <Skybox> at (<parcel coords>) on parcel <myParcel> in region <region> because the owner of this land does not allow it. Use the land too to see land ownership."

I do own the land, when I view land borders it shows my land outlined in green, and I am able to rez smaller objects here.

I am using the current SL Viewer, if that makes a difference.

When dragging an object from my inventory to the world to rez it, there is no outline or preview shown. I am ASSUMING the problem is that the object is trying to rez across one of the edges of the land and thus being rejected. So, how do I rez something that is close to (but significantly smaller) in size to the lot I am trying to rez it on, given there doesn't seem to be a way to preview where the object will be or how it will be oriented?

First off the most obvious problem would be that your ORIENTATION isn't matching your parcel, so I would go to a sandbox and make sure that you have the longest measurement of the skybox going in the direction of the longest measurement of the lot.

You can turn on property lines in  World > Show More > Property lines.  When you drag your skybox onto the land make sure you are dragging to the CENTER of the parcel. You can rez a big prim there and look at the land measurements if needed to make sure it is in the center. Then aim for THAT prim when you rez.

You have only one meter on each side to fit the skybox in so that is pretty close. If the skybox is mod you could size it down and place it in the center of the parcel and then size it back up again (via the STRETCH option in the build menu).

Good luck

That shouldn't actually be a problem and I suspect the explanation is oemthing completely different. This is a shot in the dark but what kind of sirface are you trying to rez the skybox onto? Mesh, prim, sculpt or ground?

Sorry for the delay in replying. It turns out that the issue does not have to do with rezing across boundaries, as other large objects have rezzed going off my land and into other spaces without an issue, and I have noticed that a few smaller objects I have tried to rez have given me the same error message. I am still confused why this is though. I am rezzing on the ground, usually toward the middle of my parcel.

When you try to rez it on the ground, toward the middle of the parcel, are you also standing there in the middle of the parcel?  When I've had trouble rezzing something from time to time and have received that same error message, I've found that it helps if I'm rezzing it down right next to my feet.

(And I also make sure I am standing on bare ground, or on a flattened prim, so I know that I'm not trying to rez it on mesh that can be problematic as a rezzing surface.)

is to do with raycasting. The short explanation:

the system draws a line from the position of our camera thru the point at which we release the mouse button (drop the object) then the line continues until it hits the ground. When the line hits the ground on the neighbours parcel then we get the error. (the raycast technicals are bit more complicated than this but the explanation is close enough)

a way to avoid this error is to rez stuff closer to our feet so that the line hits our parcel. On tight/small parcels then moving our camera up helps also

That's what I had in mind too and why I asked what kind of surface she was rezzing on. It should not be an issue if she's rezzing directly on the ground though.

Reading the OP, there is one other possible explanation:

Do you own the land directly or is it assigned to a group you own? If it's group land and you use the official viewer, you have to have the right group active to be able to rez.

There is one other possible explanation, the skybox contains a path-cut prim for the root, causing the centre of the link-set to fall outside the parcel when trying to rez exactly on the centre of the parcel coordinates, but the only time I have encountered this was in the past when mega-prims were still used.

I suggest the OP finds a sandbox and rezzes the skybox there so they can examine the bounding box and linkset centre.
