Unable to view SL at fullscreen 1080p resolution on a 4k monitor.

Pretty straight-forward question. I have a 4k monitor and prefer playing Second Life on fullscreen at 1080p, but whenever I set it to fullscreen the resolution is automatically set to 4k. How do I counteract this?

With great difficulty.

Right now, your ONLY option is to open debug settings and poke renderresolutionDivisor .. it only allow integers, so .. setting it to 2 should do it.

UNLESS! You're using Catznip!

In which case you can poke the RenderResolutionMultiplier debug setting which allow fractional inputs. 0.5 will half it (same as 2 above), maybe you can get away with 0.8 or something. Do not go higher .. that will over render and sample down, the exact opposite of what you want.

@PierceMineHeart Alternatively, you could temporarily (whilst playing) change the display resolution of the operating system to 1080p, then the viewer will start and use 1080p too.  I have used this myself on Linux and Windows and can vouch that you will even get better performance than using 4K natively.

Is this still true ?? cause I don't notice a drop in my FPS when on 3840x2160 with my New Samsung 43" 4K UHD HDR LED Tizen Smart TV of this - https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/samsung-43-4k-uhd-hdr-led-tizen-smart-tv-un43tu7000fxzc-titan-grey/14469345

And wouldn't that mean your seeing Firestorm at 1080p res instead of the 4K res ?

Btw I'm using Firestorm not SL Viewer

Yes it is true and it will always be so.  It is because the SL viewer isn't having to render as much detail as it does for 4K.  A 1080p frame is a quarter of the size of 4K frame and so rendering each 1080p frame will take roughly about a quarter of the time as it would for a 4K frame and that will mean that your frame rates will increase significantly.  Yes, you do only get 1920x1080 by doing this though which negates the benefits of 4K unless you bought the monitor to do 4K with another application.

I don't know what the situation is with the TV you describe but changing the monitor/tv would not change SL's stated frame rate if the resolutions are the same.  So something odd is happening there.  Perhaps one has a better driver than the other?

You can see they almost have the same FPS and I'm playing on a RX 580 8 GB video card

Perhaps the GPU is frame locked to around 30fps.  Firestorm has a setting for this but there could also be operating system settings to control it.

Nope I get higher FPS then that at my house with either Resolution

It could still be the monitor driver is the difference.  Other than that I have no idea, sorry.  I do know that in all the circumstances I have tested the different resolutions with, it behaved as I described.  That was with Nvidia cards though and not AMD.

Here's a weird question did you try with a 4K HDMI? cause I can see a difference now with my 4K HDMI - This is the one I got -

You could get the 6 ft one if your HDMI ports are closer to your computer but mine are on the far right side of my TV so I got the longer cord just incase I didn't want the 6ft one being too short and not being able to reach.
