"Mute" and "Block" are simply two different terms for the same thing.

When you Mute/Block someone, you no longer receive any IMs from them, any inventory offers from them are automatically rejected, and they appear on your screen as a gray silhouette, a cloud, or invisible, depending on which viewer you're using.  You will not see any particle effects they emit, or hear any sounds or voice from them.

They do not receive any notice that you have blocked them, but it is usually pretty easy to tell when you've been blocked.  The instant rejection of messages and inventory offers is a strong clue.

You are not invisible to someone you have blocked.  You can't see them, but they can see you.

They can still send you money.

They can interact with you physically...bump into you, for example.

If you mute or block an object, you also automatically mute the object's owner.

If you send a blocked person an IM or offer them inventory, they are automatically un-blocked.

Can people you block see your text in group chat if you belong to the same group?

yes

as Lindal says above. Blocking only means that you can't see or hear them. They can see and hear you. Hear includes all types of chat

Thank you for letting me know:) I wish it was the other way round lol

the topic does come up sometimes, but LL is never going to do it as the inworld is a shared experience. The basis of a shared experience is that we can't opt other people out of it, we can only opt ourselves out. A bit like the real world in this sense. All we can do with other people, same as the real world, is ban/prevent people only from our own properties/groups/etc. We can't ban/block/prevent them from the shared (public) space. Only LL can do that as the owner of the public/shared space

I just wish there was an option to see muted agent chat in group chat as most times it could be more tolerable and any abuse such as spamming puts their account at risk of discipline if done in group chat where such discipline doesn't exist in open chat.

I could be misremembering, but I think the current version of Catznip has this setting, and it displays the chat is a different color (so you know it's coming from a blocked person. I'm at the office right now and I'd sneak in to double-check, but we use macOS here and, unfortunately, still awaiting a macOS version. Though I always recommend people give it a try (and the price is right: free) just for the major performance boost you get out it, so...

Firestorm has that, but only for muted agents talking in open chat, not for muted agents talking in group chat.
