Been out of SL for long time - got a new laptop a few days ago and thoughts I would check out SL again. downloaded it tonight and was fine.  closed thew viewer because it seemed frozen and when i tried to reopen it just locks up about 5/8ths of the way "loading world".  tried uninstalling and reboot but no luck. even tried firestorm viewer and it does the same thing (shows the load bar and freezes at about 5/8 of way)  any help would be greatly appreciated - I am not very tech savvy

Definitely do as Cindy said.  That will give us the important specs of your system.  There are a few known issues with some graphic card driver versions and such, so the tech info will help us help you.

As suspected, it is likely the graphics driver. See this post:

That CPU came out in 2017.
I also see in your other post "Window size: 1304x745" I'm wondering if the screen resolution caps at 1366x768? They haven't made those for years now.

I hope you haven't over payed for it, that happens all too often.
