As far as I'm aware (open to correction if I'm wrong), the ToS doesn't stop you quoting chat logs back at the person you were conversing with. Sharing it with a third party? Yeah, that requires consent, but repeating an IM back to that same person should be fine.

Right. I’m aware. I’m just saying people can and do get all “muh privacy! Muh rights!” Even when you just show them what they said to you. Therefore, that kind of pick can get written as a reaction.

I always chuckle at voice verification. Even webcam verification. I had a friend who was dating what he thought was a Korean girl and even saw her uh..doing things..on webcam. Then later found out that was a porn video and it was actually some white guy from somewhere in America.

Voice verification has always been ridiculous to me. Mostly because I've been aware of voice morphing* since before I ever joined SL (2004) so I've known all along that voice verification in SL was a farce.

*VM (late 90s) has been around longer then SL has been open to the public (2003).

Oh right, I forgot about voice morphing. I’ve never heard it used in an SL context, that I’m aware of at least. I wonder if it sounds authentic enough to convince someone a person was another gender.

VM has been in SL for a few years now. And yes, you can make a male voice sound feminine and vice versa. It can even be done with Audacity which was once (if not still) a popular tool for making looped audios intended to be used in SL.

Most of the time it doesn’t, you can usually tell when someone’s using one. They either have a super high voice and sound like a 9 year old or just metallic.

I’ve never called someone out for using one (none of my business), but I’ve seen it happen plenty of times.

Ah of course, and that's why you also need to photo verify. Oh, but photos can be manipulated, so you also need to webcam verify. Except you might just be hiding under baggy clothes, so you've also got to strip off. Except this might be a pre-recorded video, so you have to follow his instructions to the letter. You know, just to confirm that you are who you say you are.

You left out holding up a dated, handwritten sign in the photo.

It all sounds like so much work. Good thing I don’t ‘date’ in SL because I’m way too lazy to go through the verification process. 😁

It is rather amazing the hoops some guys will try to put you through and then either refuse to believe the truth or get all bent out of shape when you tell them you don't have to prove anything to them or anyone else. I've walked away from quite a few screaming insults at me in SL over the years. They're not worth the effort.

Exactly what I was thinking. I know there are a few people who literally can't leave the house for whatever reason, but for the most part, if you're that dead set on making sure your partner is your preferred gender, I can't help but feel you should be looking in RL. And if you're not prepared to look in RL, then it's because you don't want to be all out there either.

Not only that but tinder has made it much easier even if you are a shut in. Swipe left or right? It’s really that easy these days ( glad I’m married).

But let’s be honest. The reason they want confirm you is so they’ll feel better. People that do all that just want to feel “not *****”.

It started when voice hit the grid. Prior to voice, this... garbage, was unheard of.

1- different letters, including the ones that are somehow difficult to read

2- there is a first life tab.  don¿t want to use it? just dont be smug putting stuff like "i don't have a first life" or something to tease or shame the people who clicked on that tab.

3-the pics with the "family" looking dorky and idiotic

4- a profile with another person.  it is a profile pic, just you in it!.

5- the links that sometimes see where they change your avatar (happens to me once, in a dance club, in the first life tab....  >.  >

6- this---> "Mess with ____ and i will destroy your world"

7-"loading RL..." in first life tag

8- all of the above

Oh man.  The profiles with every pic dedicated to their SL love.  And those partners who post narry a mention of the other.  Threats if you mess with someone.  Also the pontificating BDSM guys who reassure us he has so much experience in RL.  Also, MC stuff.  Those that claim to be hard core RL bikers.  Just, no.

Don't let me forget the verified crowds.  By who?

Then: "I don't do ....." statements be it Drama, @geplay, sex, boyfriends, collars.... they are red flags that the person does exactly those things. If you really don't do those things then there really is no need to tell people.

Since adding a statement to my profile about not doing SL sex, the amount of random people messaging me looking for a domme/sub/girlfriend/sex/escort/etc has been reduced to almost none. I used to get one or more a day every day.

Pet peeves (profiles)? Yass! *grabs bingo card*

"Real person behind avatar reminder" Guilty as charged. In all fairness though, I frequently roleplay a robot character who acts very stoic/nonhuman. I get confused for a bot all the time. The wording for me is, "Yes, i'm a real person in here, promise" iirc.

Anyone who says who voice verified etc; the most funny thing I saw in profile I perved whilst hosting once was this girl joined and paid 50L$ to join a group to say supposedly she is verified RL girl like you totally been jipped and scammed by paying to join that.  Other one that I shake my head is with threatening I'm gonna mess with you if you mess with me or my friends/family/partner like I'm quaking in my booties!!

I admit I have a BDSM quiz thingy that irks some but not gonna force my choice in lifestyle on anyone; my choice at end of day.  What else irks me the ASCII coding of a puppy or whatever it is because it don't always show for me.

The dedications to who they love doesn't bother me, even if it's in all 10 of their picks. I just close the profile and move on because they clearly cannot survive without being lodged up their partner's butt.

Here are mine:

  • "I'll do THIS and THIS to you if you mess with _____ !!!"
  • More RL pics here: (link that changes my avatar)
  • Can't Verify? No Talk/Sex/Etc.
  • "No Drama! lolol"
  • TikTok Celeb~
  • POLITICS.
  • MC 1%

One time I came across a profile of this guy who said that if we became friends then I was REQUIRED to allow him to find me on the map. 🤣

I'd have become friends and then refused to let him find me on the map. When he started whinging in IM, I'd have done my responses in role play mode, based on whatever character flitted into my head at the time. Right now I'm thinking Basil Fawlty and Vicky Pollard.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the whole "Got a problem with me? Message my dom/master/daddy/parent!" disclaimers.

Those are still a thing too? What actually happens if you message them yourselves about it?
