So when it says Upgrading Hosts, does it mean we are moving to the Cloud.

I am getting these emails, saying there is maintenance going on. Having to do with upgrading the host. Is SL moving to the cloud now?

Most likely that is because more servers are now running the EEP (new Windlight(R)). Mine just changed yesterday.

They are moving things to the cloud. But, not the simulators... yet. The host in SLese is the server running the simulators. All computers have an Operating System (OS). Windows 10 is an operating system. We get almost weekly updates to Win 10. For the Lab changing the OS is not as simple as an update to Windows. But, there are similar problems. With newer Windows versions there is some old software that won't run on it. So, the highly complex SL simulator needs to be tested to assure it will run as expected on a new OS.

Basically, they are updating from something like Win-8 to Win-10... Or depending on what they were talking about then an update from MS Office 2012 to 2016 or 2019... which is more like the weekly server updates.

The move to the cloud will likely take over a year counting from now. Some stuff is in the cloud now. The Lindens are not saying what they are moving when. And they are clear they won't tell us much about the move until after the fact. Such information tends to skew bug reports. So, they avoid those types of news. They also think if done correctly... we won't notice... no bumps.
