"Linden Homes improvements - not yet"

You mean to tell me the Horizons homes didn't count?   :D

I'm guessing the grin is because Horizons homes are so completely different from Linden Homes, but also they've been around for years now, not in the "15 plans" timeframe.

As to the whole "subscription based homes" thing: Free homes might keep some newbies around, but if they were good enough to achieve that, they'd surely erode the market for those extreme entry level, rez-on-demand rental domes packing the Mainland sky (and map). Presumably those generate actual tier revenue for the Lab.

If the Lab's SL business model shifted enough from Land to stuff like Marketplace commissions, they could afford to undercut those landlords and drive them to a different market.

I mean, what good is a virtual world if you can't live in it?

Premium homes, cheap rentals, anywhere still do free homes for noobs?, sandboxes, exploring with no fixed abode, friends who'll let you set Home at their's, imagination - lots of possibilities, as befits a creative open-ended world.

when they were created horizons homes had 1024 per parcle but free tier was just 512...

and if every user had their own free snippet of land somewhere (not just premiums) they would have collapesed due to servercosts by now

Mmmm.. but with the 1024 default teir now  .. best value land per prim in all of SL once the stipend is factored in, and that's including the high up front buy in price (did the math, almost nothing else can compete US$ per prim assuming a 24 month tenancy and prem is paid yearly .. everyone on a grandfathered stipend should 100% live on horizons, it's basically free).

Or - like most - you don't sotckpile your Stipend .... among other issues that have always existed with the calculations some make concerning Premium ....

ETA: Stockpile for a month or two, to supplement L$ purchases? Sure - normal. For an entire year? Not so normal.

The point is you're getting Lindens weekly. How you manage those Lindens is up to you. Stockpile them or spend them. Typically you'd be buying those Lindens if they weren't given to you free so it's still savings no matter how you cut it! It's always puzzled me that some seem to discount the savings unless they save the Lindens. That's not how money works. :)

You redacted your comment too late. Now it's here forever! :P

No, I promise you once I go premium I will more freely spend them. Usually I buy less than 10k a year.

See above, Blush. I'm not getting into it, I've explained it repeatedly and frankly I'm sick and tired of doing so.

I'll direct you to the Buy L$ page so you can do the "savings" math yourself instead.

ETA: Quoting it doesn't much matter - I'm not going to argue about it/over it and not interested in any "discussion" on the matter.

When we were looking those were more expensive .. also Nautilus has that huge circular wall made entirely from 10M prims.

There are two parcels in Horizons with access to Zindra seas, last time I looked both were for sale... I doubt Nautilus can compete with those prices...

unless of course you get a double prim sea access 1024 parcel in Nautilus city...

It's quite expensive to buy in Nautilus City, Bay City, the western coastal regions of Zindra or Nova Albion. I've lived in all four areas and prefer my region, Barcola, in Nova Albion. But that said, you can get a Horizon's parcel for less than any of the ones I mentioned previously. I just don't like the looks of Horizons and am not fond of living in adult rated regions.

  2. Double Mainland tier ✔️
  3. More Value for Premium Members - ... where? oh right they can attach 2 animesh now (✔️)
  4. Environment Enhancements - at least it already gave us sailing hilarity with random sun movements...
  5. More exclusive games and experiences - none of those announced after the return of the Ruthie... but everyone can do the glytch location 3 now...
  6. Themed Learning Islands - indeed here they are - no one told us... LL you reallly and I mean REALLY need to hire marketing specialists, ... ✔️
  7. The return of Last Names - not yet
  8. Gridwide Experiences - not yet
  9. Auctions - were on for a short time, are they back yet? apparently yes ✔️
  10. Linden Homes improvements - not yet
  11. Marketplace updates - mostly good - some questionalbe ✔️
  12. Improved performance -  good joke, Ebbe :D
  13. Animesh ✔️
  14. Bakes on Mesh - well at least it gave us a huge boost of community feeling among the tinies...
  15. Migration to the Cloud - is it that what causes the recent performance issues?

We have 6/7 out of 15, I guess we can market this as a success :D

EDIT:

  • Added the new "premium benefit" =^.^=
  • Added learning islands
  • Added auctions

I think the Lindens did the most important things promised.

Aren't the "environmental enhancements" these things in the Linden Library now named TOR or something and with kind of glowy typeface that look like you can use them on Windlight or something? Haven't figured them out yet. But I think they mean those?

Hard as it is to believe, certain things on this list aren't relevant to everyone, i.e. Baked on Mesh seems to be about skins and outfits and I don't care about them. Linden games - don't care about. I have had fun making my own using Experiences.

There aren't that many people who complain about the lack of last names -- I see so many people making display names.

"More value for premium" *is* the double tier and lower mainland costs.

I think the Lindens do more and keep more promises/pledges than they used to, quite frankly.

Themed learning islands -- didn't they have something about the ice cores recently?
