As I was trying to find out the last Town Hall meeting date (November, 2018) I came across the 15th Anniversary post.  For those of you wondering and not wanting to delve though a lot of old posts, I am linking here.

What has been accomplished has certainly been welcome.  Next week it will be a year since this list came out.

  1. Lower Mainland costs ✔️
  2. Double Mainland tier ✔️
  3. More Value for Premium Members - ... where? oh right they can attach 2 animesh now (✔️)
  4. Environment Enhancements - at least it already gave us sailing hilarity with random sun movements...
  5. More exclusive games and experiences - none of those announced after the return of the Ruthie... but everyone can do the glytch location 3 now...
  6. Themed Learning Islands - indeed here they are - no one told us... LL you reallly and I mean REALLY need to hire marketing specialists, ... ✔️
  7. The return of Last Names - not yet
  8. Gridwide Experiences - not yet
  9. Auctions - were on for a short time, are they back yet? apparently yes ✔️
  10. Linden Homes improvements - not yet
  11. Marketplace updates - mostly good - some questionalbe ✔️
  12. Improved performance -  good joke, Ebbe :D
  13. Animesh ✔️
  14. Bakes on Mesh - well at least it gave us a huge boost of community feeling among the tinies...
  15. Migration to the Cloud - is it that what causes the recent performance issues?

We have 6/7 out of 15, I guess we can market this as a success :D

EDIT:

  • Added the new "premium benefit" =^.^=
  • Added learning islands

the gradingscale doesn't go lower but this would be a F - ?  ... in Western Europe, a 3- .. ( we grade between 10 and 0, the 0 nearly not given, always a 1 for the efford of wrting your name on the test)
If shareholders would get 4 instead of 15 promessed there would be a replacement of the whole board. Nothing wrong with ambition, but please keep it to a scale you can handle... and ditch that Sansar...

My university demands 60% succces for the worst grade that's still a pass (4.0 to 4.49 - can vary between institutions), ... so it would be a 5 here on a scale from 1 to 6 in Germany (6 is reserved for cheating in our university system)

I'm not surprised that the viewer enhancement projects aren't ready yet, these things take time because the lab involves us along the way . . . and we're collectively terrible as platform beta testers, so lots of respect for LL sticking with this approach.

Improved performance is coming .. however it might be negated by some of the enhancements. The promised new cache alone will make a night and day difference.

If anything, making the grid cloud compatible goes a long way towards improving SL's scaling issues and providing a better and smoother experience for us all.

Updated the list, thanks where they ever officially announced? I mean officially, not in some Linden Cheer Squad meeting ...Inara still talks about them as "not public"...

Don't the first two make #3 kinda more valid? Albeit making #3 a bit superfluous for the time being, I suppose.

They listed them as extra point so I guess they planned extra value beyond points 1 and 2  - if they did not plan any it's a snakesoil salesmen trick ;)

They need to fix FB posting that was linked to your viewer as I miss being able to post pictures and not upload to separate SL album on FB but now I have to do so.

They generally need to move away from questionable 3rd party service requirements, be they facebook for destination likes or flickr for picture of the day submissions ...

I hope FB and flickr pay them well for these adds (but I guess the Lab doesn't get payed for that advertisment at all).

Auctions are indeed back and functioning.

They're functioning as auctions but the Place Page for each auction tries to show a map which would be really handy, but it stays blank at least for me. I just now decided to investigate and found that deep inside the html it's trying to fetch four map tiles at URLs like this: "https://secondlife-maps-cdn.akamaized.net/map-1-95-240-objects.jpg" each of which throws to the browser console a 403 - Access Denied error (for me).

Last July, back when the new Auction page was actually new, I wrote a Jira about a different bug in the auction maps and that shows as having been Accepted with no further updates, so I'm not sure the proper protocol at this point. I mean, it no longer gets far enough displaying the map to tell if the previous bug is still a problem.

I gather they're very close to opening the auctions for resident-to-resident sales. That will be interesting, although the Lab's commission appears it will be high enough to keep the market far less liquid than I'd hoped.

I really don't remember a time when I could depend on the map, in any of it's incarnations, where it wasn't glitchy. I just roll with it while muttering to myself. :P

But do you see it at all now? I only idly browse the auctions occasionally, so I wonder how the folks cope who do so seriously -- or if maybe I'm uniquely "map blind" here.

This is what I see.

All the pics are of that grid thing. But when I hit the visit this location then it opens up in SL and I can see from there. But no, the map doesn't function as expected on the auctions page.

That was broken by Facebook, I'm afraid, and it's not clear how we can fix it.

I see the same thing as Blush, so yeah, something odd going on.

My understanding is that it will likely never stay fixed even if it does get fixed now -- because FB intentionally is always changing their APIs to combat some of the automated posting tactics.

My main suggestion for the Lab to fix FB in it's products is, "grep for all FB integration and purge it completely".

"Linden Homes improvements - not yet"

You mean to tell me the Horizons homes didn't count?   :D

Not sure why they keep trying to force subscription based homes though.  They are better off giving everyone a free home like IMVU (not sure if they still do).  They could then entice people to upgrade to a higher tier with rezzing rights, or with some other similar restrictions, so newbs and the less fortunate do not lag the sims.  It's a shame really, because i've tried to get at least four or five people to stay in SL but they always complain about a lack of home and never come back.  I mean, what good is a virtual world if you can't live in it?

Ok, done ranting.  :P
