earning money in SL

There are several ways

1. Hop into any AFK sex sim and hope that some passing basement dweller will consider your avatar sexy enough to defile and donate 5 lindens to .

2. Hop into any adult club that has a pole and continue hoping that passing basement dweller will tip you for shaking your pixel behind for him.

3. Become an escort and treat said basement dweller to light conversation, dinner at the all you can eat prim coral and light petting in the hopes he pays you the equivalent of 0.50 cents in real life money for the 10 hours of painstaking work you have to do to satisfy his desperate need for a freudian mother type figure.

4. Run around linden realms collecting hours worth of *insert generic items of the month here* in the hopes of collecting enough *insert generic items of the month here* so that you can obtain one whole linden and a hearty pat on the back for wasting five hours of your life that you could put into much more interesting things such as waterboarding through custard.

5. Play that stupid fishing game that no one actually seems to make any money off that the creator keeps pushing on the forums in the hopes that enough people might be fooled into purchasing extras for it so he can make his mortgage payment on his caravan this month.

6 Spend a year learning the intricacies of Blender and a further year swearing at avastar and learning photoshop, substance painter, marvellous designer etc so you can make clothing and other fun mesh things. This is probably one of the most profitable things you could do in world but my advice on this is to not wake up each day and start creating *insert generic clothing item name of which there are thousands of variants on the marketplace already* here. If you want to stand out in this way then try and make clothing that is visually interesting and you think would appeal to the users of SL. A good example to look at would be the male fashion store Gabriel, they may make things that you might find in a high street clothing store but their work is refined, interesting and has their own unique spin put on it. There is no point in becoming a clothing designer if you are just going to make the 458576th asymmetrical red super dress or the 45785nd cute top with a bit cut out of the neck as it will just get swallowed by the thousands of items like it.

7. Learn to animate and make AO's. Given what I said above I think this would be more lucrative than learning mesh clothing. There are not enough animators in SL with only a handful of stores holding the monopoly on decently designed AO's and some of those stores are not even that good. One which will remain nameless thinks its a good idea to charge 4000 lindens for  AO's that make you look like your trying to shave your buttocks while running on a treadmill.

8. Learn scripting. Not the most profitable per say but figure out the right product in the right niche and you can make a pretty okay income from it. Nothing crazy. The highest paid project I had was 3kUSD but that only happened the once. Usually its a months of smaller amounts and the occasional bigger okay paying project.

9. Learn all of the above, become the ultimate super creator that needs help from no one and lives alone in a rickety looking shack high up on an expertly terraformed hill who inspires stories told from parent to child around a midsummer nights campfire though whispered sighs and awe.

10. Get good at SL photography and charge people for taking photographs of their *latest partner of the week*. Some photographers make 4-6k per session others less and rare ones more.

11. Teach something for tips....do this after covering points 6 through 9

By no means exhaustive but a good start

Inworld avatar names always match exactly to whatever the name shows as here on the forums:

Thanks! Now that I look at it I was looking at the post below hers and that's probably why I couldn't find what I was looking for 😂

I am not sure if I can post that link. The policies here are rather confusing.

they are very simple, no adult content in the general parts of the forum.

Leading to adult instructions without visible adult language or content won't harm directly, but if it leads to real adult content your link might get removed, álso in your signature

I have the impression that only gets moderated after a report... just like profiles should be general content and no one intervenes if not reported...

PS: of course by having adult stuff there you are effectively handing out a preloaded gun

I think in general it's easier for women to make money than for guys.  I've had some fun and relatively well paying jobs in SL while a lot of guys I know have to buy lindens.

I think this may be why some folks create opposite sex alts...

How do people connect with others to make money in SL photography?  I used to do it for a living in real life and I do a lot of it here for fun... If I could make enough money not to have to buy lindens a couple times a year, that would be fine... I'm not trying to pay real life bills, but I'd love to support my SL habit by my SL earnings if that was possible... Given what I used to be paid in real life, I know there's no way I could make that much in SL. But I can't do real life photography from my armchair either...

Hi Paddy, welcome to SL!  You should probably offer your services in this forum: https://community.secondlife.com/forums/forum/312-inworld-employment/

However, don't expect a huge response.  You'll likely do better to create your own content (for example, in Blender) and offer it for sale.  The Marketplace provides a low-cost (free!) way to start out as an SL content creator/merchant/entrepreneur.

Hi Joy!  Most photographers I'm aware of have some sort of in-world studio/gallery.  You can also advertise in the Marketplace, using the "Services" category.  Try searching that section and use "photo" as a search term to see how other people are doing it.

Thank you very much!  I will look into both suggestions.

Thank you for being so helpful to so many people over the years.  I remember meeting you when I was a clueless newbie trying to learn about SL, including things like how to use the photography interface.😸

Stripper / escorts can make some money. This also requires an investment in a sexy avatar (Mesh, Catwa, Skin, Huds).

A seriously profitable way is blogging. Requires a little investment (domain, hosting) and a serious amount of time. I am doing this since years and does make me some nice cash aside.

A mesh head, not "catwa".  Why give to that head the most press?? duck face in all its heads.  there are a LOT of different vendors in SL, and more creative and realistic.

  • You can make quite a lot of money (in some cases, enough to support yourself in Real Life) by one of the following two methods.
    • Land Baron.  Buy a lot of land, and rent it out to tenants.  This can be profitable, but there's a lot of competition and it requires a large capital investment.
    • Content Creator.  Learn to make things (clothing, hair, animations, vehicles, houses, trees...anything!) well enough that other people want to buy it.  This requires a large investment in developing the necessary skills, creating the content, and setting up and running a business.  Like any business, there's a risk of failure.

I'd have to disagree on this. Lots of people got their start in land businesses far, far more modestly. Scour the land for sale especially in somewhat bleak areas with lots of abandoned land. Find a very cheap plot and re-sell it. Possibly you can do this by putting a gatcha house on it that would transfer with the purchase, and any other plants, etc. that are on transfer. You could also ask LL to buy the abandoned land around it -- a 512 only, perhaps. Look at the user and Linden auctions and find something going cheap and flip it. Or improve it with houses and rent it. You could start with just a few parcels in a group -- it's fun, and see how it goes.

Flipping land is SL is scorned by forums reg but it is necessary and even profitable on a small scale and it's how people can enter the economy and also unload land they don't want short of abandoning it.

Then there are all sorts of jobs with the big rentals companies, they're all over.

Alot of stuff on SL such as learning how to use blender, Scripting, and Building is pretty far out there for a SL noob. However, tournaments are a pretty good alternative

Gorean Tournament Guild, Medi-Fantasy Events & Information, or United Jousters if they wanna compete for Linden. This is skill based gaming though, as in Player vs Player.

Another good suggestion is Voodoo Sploders on a alt.

Excepted for a handful of creators/investors that are pretty much cemented into the foundations at this point, SL is hard work for very little pay.

It's fine if you see it as a vocation (like getting into a convent i guess) or if you do it because you have an unquenchable creative itch I suppose.
