Many things can cause two avatars, on two different computers, to experience a lot of lag in the same region.

  • The region itself is experiencing problems.  TEST:  Try a different region.
  • Second Life as a whole is experiencing problems.  TEST:  Check the Grid Status blog for announcements.
  • If you and your companion are also using the same home network, also try rebooting your router.
  • The region is operating normally, but just has a lot of high resolution textures in its buildings and things.  TEST: Try teleporting to an altitude above 1000m.
  • There are a lot of avatars in the region, especially ones near you.  TEST:  Reduce your draw distance, reduce your Rendering Complexity setting.
  • Someone is deliberately trying to cause problems by using a graphics crasher.  TEST:  Try any of the above, or try turning 180 degrees and face the other way.  Or de-render or Mute anyone with an extremely high Complexity (well above one million).
