SL is weird. Humans are weird. SL just lets humans express their weirdness. I'm not convinced that's a bad thing.

Carole, as usual, is right.

Also, although it's been pointed out before, the "daughters" in question were adults and their avatars looked like adults. For me, personally, it's not appealing at all and I find it, for lack of a better word, icky.

What it is not is pedophilia. Nothing in any part of anything this man said on the documentary indicates his interest in anyone underage.

"Pedo" is one of the most serious accusations you can throw at someone because it is a deeply serious thing that needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Throwing it around casually when it does not even remotely fit the situation is not only unfair to the person it's levied against, it's unfair to people who have been victims of actual abuse.

*eta* I am firmly against banning or otherwise persecuting anyone based on the fact that their interests are icky to me. Mainly because my interests may be icky to them.

I'll wager you watched it a lot more than twice. This obsession does not appear healthy.

, but if I knew him in RL and my daughter were a friend of his daughter, I wouldn't mind letting her go over to play at their house.

I can assure you, if you had a daughter, you couldnt have answered that so casualy. Its nerve wracking sending your child to an absolutely normal, no scandals ever house. I cant imagine sending my little girl anywhere there has ever been a hint of what's been talked about here. I havnt watched the clips, have only an inkling of whats being discussed, but its enough for alarm bells in regards to my daughter going near there. His daughter could come to my house instead.

Now I'll finish reading the thread lol, may have more to add...

Well, that's the problem with rumors based on hearsay. As usual, many of the things that have been discussed here have only a tangential connection with NG's "Taboo" episode featuring Stroker, and even less relation to the OP.

The supposedly scandalous video can be found here. It basically features an SL sugar daddy with his *adult* SL sugar "daughters". Adult in both SL and RL, that is. There is nothing that is in any way related to legal minors. Alas, that doesn't keep people from implying the worst. Paranoia as usual (and defamation in case of one person here, which is also nothing new).

PS: As a single person without children, I can only say that I wouldn't watch anybody's kids even if I was offered a mansion at the French Riviera in return. If I see a lost child in a public place, I keep on walking and mind my own business. I'd rather that kid runs around terrified and crying for his mommy for hours or days than myself getting into trouble for trying to help. If the saying that it takes a village to raise a child is true, modern day parents will have to hire an entire village and give everyone a CIA level background check.

My question for discussion is what kind of message you think these shows are sending about Second Life? Do they invite potential customers with "wholesome"  or "prurient" interests?  Do they show a virtual environment parents would be likely to send their teenage children into?  Do they show an environment most companies would want to use for business dealings?  Do they show an environment most internet users would want to check out? And do they show a realistic view of Second Life?

There are many TV shows and documentaries that deal with the seedier parts of the internet, not to mention cyber criminality such as password phishing and hacking. What kind of message about the world-wide web does that send to senior citizens who don't own a computer?

Lol at the way you put that. I think I need to make myself clearer, I wouldnt send my daughter to any house that I didnt know and trust the adult(s). Rumours wouldnt make a difference if it was someone I knew, I'm not a person who believes everything I hear. I've been the object of enough bull to know not to listen when its about someone else. However, when its your kid's safety, you error on the side of caution.

I don't have an opinion on anything else to do with any of this. I wasnt here for it, I dont realy care. :matte-motes-smile: I just felt the need to point out that someone without kids can't realy say what they'd do if they had them. Everything changes once the life of someone else is yours to care for.

Edited- I just watched the video you linked, and yeah, I'm a little icked out lol. The whole daughter thing just creeps me out a little. If you go public with somthing like that, dont get upset when people have a reaction. :smileysurprised:

Incest is illegal. The fantasies are taboo. The subject in the piece admits as much. Further he states that after years of playing sl very real first life emotions were generated from playing sl. It is unsettling. It raises red flags. Such activity is not to be encouraged.

I don't do explore the fantasies mentioned in this piece and I'm unhealthily obsessed because I condemn evil, hypocrisy, content theft, the exploration of creepy desires! If that mAkes me a villain I'll be one! But I'll never stop! Right is ok my side. U have to sanction creepiness! :) I'm free to condemn it!

I didn't find any mention of a"sugar" daddy and don't see how that would qualify as being taboo in any way. From what I saw was a man who was a dedicated family man in real life who went to great lengths to explain having a second family in second life and that he explored the very TABOO fantasies of incest of sex with those daughters. The fact that the subject has a preteen daughter who was paraded by the producers of the show just made things creepy to say the least. The op I think thought this show was harmless! I unno! I don't! It's unsettling.

Said the owner of  a porn magazine that this forum censors the name of.

& Dude, I read your Twitter. It's full of homphobic comments, not to mention the 'beatdown' you witnessed and lied to the police about and the woman you claimed to have choked. My point being that you needn't pretend to be cleaning up SL on behalf of puppies and Christmas. You're clearly doing it because of the personal feud between Stroker & yourself and you are by no means on the moral highground.

Yeah, you keep fighting that hypocrisy. Go you.

Those were almost full sentences. Aren't you supposed to add (OOC) when you do that? I noted the name change. A rose by any other name would still be misogynistic and badly put together.

But anyway, this is the point at which I ask myself why I care anyway and then realize that I really don't all that much.

I have been on Sl since 2006. My original avie was killed off by Linden..thanks Linden. The game is what you make of it. I have never met this avie, my friends have. It's all in fun, and if you can't handle it, then don't get on!

your right. that isn't all it's about, people can come here and be creative, meet people, it cab be a hobby. people can take real life classes. There are religous grops and sims can do Bible studies. There are role play sims where any one can be any thing they desire to be.  It can be a wonderful place,  It's not all about sex.  Any thing any human can imagine in the mind can be experienced in SL.

Wonderful things happen there, people who may be handicaped that can never have children, can meet some one and experience that in there  and experience all the feelings. the mind is a very powerful thing.

lol that goes on there too, lmao.. if you can imagine it.. good bad or indifrent... It goes on there... there are well over 4 million people in SL.  people that do taboo things there are fior sure not doing them in real life... all it is is a virtual fantasy world. It's not reality.
