It sounds very much like a weak or intermittent Internet connection.  Bandwidth is not the issue.  Stability is.  If you are losing data packets between your computer and the LL servers, or is there are periods when signals between them are delayed briefly, your viewer will be out of sync with the servers.  In effect, your viewer tells your avatar to move, but the servers (which do the actual movement) don't get the message right away.  You can diagnose the problem by looking at your Statistics Bar (CTRL + Shift + 1).  The Packet Loss number should be very close to 0% and the Ping Sim number should be less than 150 Msec for best performance (although it may be significantly higher if you are half a world away from California)

Possible solutions:

1. Avoid using a wireless connection.  Many SL residents have no trouble using wifi, but Linden Lab neither recommends nor supports it.

2. Do not use a satellite Internet connection.  Your Ping time will be guaranteed to be HUGE.

3. Reboot both your router and your modem by disconnecting them from the power for a minute.  Then plug them back in and restart everything.

4. Check all cables and connections for breaks and looseness.

5. Consider adding the free public Google DNS server to the list in your router that was provided by your ISP.

Veering off topic, I wonder about how SL will manage, when Elon Musk puts up all those thousands of little satellites that will provide world-wide access to the internet? https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/nov/17/elon-musk-satellites-internet-spacex

Surprisingly, there are still more first time (or new) Internet users than experienced users. So, the new satellite and balloon connected users are unlikely to be Linden customers.

However, latency in the balloon network is reported to be in the 1 to 10ms range while satellite is in the 10 to 2,000ms range. So, the balloon connected would likely have service comparable to Africa's and Australia's best connections.
