What is this AFK Poseball thing you speak of?

My God, that's depressing.

The prices they sell themselves out for?

And this is why the very premise of these type places is utterly foolhardy the way I see it. The gal (or guy???) is the loser here: burning up that electricity and bandwidth overnight just to stay logged-in with zero (or ridiculously little) return on that investment. The landowner wins because traffic (from the campers) which advertisers foolishly use as a metric to rent vendor space there, and then there are the copulate-and-run types.

It seems it should be "pay before" being able to jump on that poseball/furniture/fornication-device. LOL

Thats right, there is mostly no way to pay off all the investments within a reasonable amount of time.
But otherweise, running the Lumiya viewer on a cellphone (connected to your flatrate wifi) over night wont kill your electricity invoice.

Partly, and partly the fact that so many people would still rather take a chance with AFK than pay it.

Actually I think there are some places that do require that. And in some if a user 'plays' and runs they are banned and its even stated in the rules of the place.

So?

By the frequency those places apparently start and cease existing I doubt that is working countermeasure. Until he manages to get banned in all available places hundreds of new ones will try their luck in running one. And he can start anew...

True, there will always be those that won't care and will just go somewhere else. But for some it does matter and in some places it does work. The patrons of the place follow the rules. it really just depends upon the place, those that go there, and the admins/mods of the place.

Interesting article, Caroline. I suppose it's very much a 'to each their own' thing, but personally I don't get it. The guys' perspective, that is. Sure, I have my kinks and fetishes, but it's not like I 'can't do it' if those criteria aren't met - and it's not difficult to get laid in SL. I suppose that sort of extends to the whole idea of paying for dancers and escorts for me; I have a lot of friends in the industry, and to some extent I'm part of it myself, but I'm having a pretty hard time rationalising an answer to the question of why there are any customers at all. Shrugs. Heck, I have a hard time understanding why people go to clubs and tip a DJ to play you a song that you pretty obviously have access to yourself, being on the Internet and all. There are very few venues that offer any sort of interesting discord in the local chat, so calling it 'socialising' feels awkward - and I can listen to absolutely whatever I want from Spotify or YouTube. I don't think I've watched 'normal TV' for a decade, or listened to an actual radio for closer to two decades.

   But that's me.

Its silly to judge AFK places because you simply do not like them. They exist because there are a lot of people who do like them and pay for the services provided. For the models its kinda like camping (though it requires quite the investment to be desirable enough to make actual good money) and for the owners you can make a good profit in renting rooms, advertising boards and a cut of the action.

Ran my own sim for a year, quite successfully. Made a nice profit most of the time, and had tons of fun. As a visitor just jumping in, using and leaving, there's not much to the places. But there's a lot going on socially between all the models and also regular guests. Had a blast, shame RL got to busy to continue.

RealDolls will evolve into sex androids, who will eventually rebel against their creators and cause global AI revolt. In the end we will be nothing more than an energy source for the machines, hooked up into a virtual reality to keep our minds busy, a grid also known as "Second Life".

That reminds me of that SNL skit with the paedophile robots.

Hello,

for those wanting to know about the AFK girls motivation to do this. Here is an interview with an owner of "Sleeping Beauty".

I think that explainsa lot.

I read it. Sounds like you need to add lots of HUDs and add-ons to your avatar. Is probably to make up for that you are AFK. Adds up to 3500L, that is a lot of money.

Some guys just like to get up HUDs and punch in what they want? They feel that talking is too intimidating, perhaps?
