Why is Second Life not letting me IM and not letting me TP without logging me out?!?

Test going back to the last version of the viewer, you can get it from http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Supported_Viewers and remember to switch off automatic updates in your preferences if you decide to stay on the older one.

Have you tried logging into a different location?  You could be logging into a sim that's in desprite need of being restarted.  Try logging into Smith and see if that makes a difference.  If you don't have the option on your login screen for choosing a location, go to Me - Preferences - General tab and check the box to Show on login

I've never had this problem before but I went back to a previous viewer as you suggested and the same problem

I did asyou suggested and it worked.... however I only TP'd somewhere once.... and when I tried another location.... I crashed

Try clearing your cache manually, see if that cleans out the dust bunnies. Log out and then go to:

 

(XP) - C: - Documents and Settings - (USER NAME) - AppData - SecondLife

(Vista) - C: - Users - (USER NAME) - AppData - Local - SecondLife

(Win 7) - C: - Users - (USER NAME) - AppData - Roaming - SecondLife and Local - SecondLife

 

Delete the contents of the folder and restart your computer.

 

NOTE: You may need to go to Windows Tools > Folder Options > View & enable Show Hidden Files/Folders, in order to see AppData folder.

 

After your reboot, change your start location on login to Smith and when you get in just stay there under the water until your inventory has fully reloaded. You can open your inventory and type in the inventory search bar to prompt loading, but do not do anything else until it is done.
