A peeve from me, which may not be a thing any more...I never liked Doms who capitalised their own pronouns. It might be a bit hypocritical, since I tend to capitalise the word as I've just done, but whenever I saw someone refer to themselves as Me, Mine and Myself, for some reason it broke the immersion and made me want to tell them that they were not in fact God.

Religious upbringing might be to blame for this.

I never thought about the religion aspect of it. Ew. I don't recall being around Doms who capitalize their pronouns. Dom, yes, as you have done. Maybe I haven't noticed it. The guy that finally made my eye twitch with it did it constantly in a relatively short amount of time.

It's also because I know a few good jokes that feature God, and when I tell them in writing, I always capitalise His pronouns. I just think that makes it funnier.

Merchants that link an item with tons of other items that are not actually all sold in the same package -- and doing this at their own store. Due to LI limitations, I can "somewhat" see this at an event, but most definitely not ever at their own store.  If there are LI limitations, then provide a rez area when the things being sold can be rezzed and seen, without additional crap that is not part of the package.  If a package says it is 13 LI and I click edit on the item and find an LI of 55, there is no way that I know for sure what is actually in the package and what isn't.

Why do merchants make it so hard to make that decision to buy from them?

Stop 👏 painting 👏 sunlight 👏 on walls&floors 👏

A little bit of shading and shadows at the corners of a skybox or building is fine. Better than fine, it's a lovely way to add a little depth to a scene. But painting on the sunlight shining through a window onto the walls and floors? Absolutely not. It looks bad and is functionally useless - sunlight does not magically travel through solid bits of furniture, but that's the result which you are forced into if you want to actually decorate the product rather than just look at the empty box.

I don't know why creators keep doing this. It's ruining their creation. It adds nothing, and only subtracts from their hard work - it's the equivalent of leaving a steaming turd on the little of the floor. Don't do this, wtf.

A lot of things people do wrong is because they found a tutorial from 2008 before a lot of things came into SL like ALM, etc. The newer better ways of doing things a kept a secret because trade secrets, competition and people just assuming everybody knows what they know, when the truth is.... they don't.

When I suggested someone do a set of new tutorials with better, more efficient ways of doing things it got poo poo'd. Its something LL and the community at large should seriously consider. It's much better than all the "Why do creators do this?" threads because the simple answer is they don't know any better. It's the reason medical journals, the DSM-V, etc get updated periodically.

Would you trust a doctor that never had professional development since 1975?  So why do we do it with creation in SL?

Menswear in SL. AGAIN. The new 'collection' at Man Cave has - once more - got me alternating between simmering and despair.

So much this. So many different styles of menswear.  even in mainstream fashion in  real life. But in Second life.  It's the same  style  of sweatpants,  vest tops and maybe if you're lucky a black suit with a white shirt. 😑

I'm just so bored.

Flickr harrassment. I'm linking only, because boy did I curse up a storm. I'm absolutely livid right now. >:(

(I've set the image to a Moderate rating because of the language. If you're not signed into Flickr then you won't be able to see it.)

ETA: After a good night's sleep I've now got a more level head about this, so will be setting that image to private and will edit this post to remove the link. I have, however, been quoted, so if you follow the link in any quoted post please note that you won't now be able to see the image.

Wow. That sucks. Sorry you're having this. And I suppose that because you had the photos set to galleries that you can't complain about it to Flickr? Or can you? I had one tw4t who pilfered my images, posted them on its Flickr feed and then wrote trash. My images were fully protected and Flickr shut down its page within hours. I also filed the DMCA.

Nothing I can do about it, since - effectively - I'd given blanket permission, as there are no other possible permissions: people can either add your images to galleries, or they can't. I wish that Flickr would allow a moderation ability, so you can approve your images being added to galleries, but that's never going to happen.

I found out - rather unpleasantly - during all of this that Flickr Support no longer appears to exist. Half of the 'contact us' options lead to a useless FAQ, and - when the FAQ tells you to choose the 'others' option in Support you get a bit of text that basically says "Look, if the FAQ doesn't answer it, don't bother asking us for help". I've been a paying Flickr Pro member since 2008, so that's not the kind of thing I expect to see.

I'm so angry, because - over the course of my 12 years as a Flickr user - other people have added hundreds of my images to their galleries, and my being forced to disable that ability has automatically removed all of those images. Not one image of mine is in any gallery anymore. This has undone 12 years of work building up and curating my Flickr presence. Twelve sodding years.

The gallery my images were added to was - to my eyes - unpleasantly named, and only my images were in it. It had been created especially to add only my images, and it was deleted within minutes of my removing the ability to add my images to any gallery (although you can be assured that I got screenshots first). Others who might be into certain aspects of SL might not even be bothered by it, but it bothered the hell out of me.

Wow. It had never occurred to me that giving perms for inclusion into galleries might mean this kind of thing.

It's really odd that you aren't prompted for permissions for this. They do prompt you when someone wants to add a pic to a group, so I don't see why the one and not the other.

I finally managed to find a working support link, through the Community Guidelines page. I've just put in a feature request for moderation/approval of images being added to galleries. I've also asked if it's possible to reverse the removal of all those gallery images prior to this evening, but I doubt that's possible :(

Thank you, on behalf of all of us, for doing this, Skell.

A couple of weeks ago I was prompted to give permission for one of my pics to be added to an SL porn group. (Bizarrely: it was a far from pornographic image. But, who knows what people are into?) But, as I said, you do at least get asked permissions for that.

I have occasionally had pics added to galleries that were things like "Beautiful Girls" etc., which have made me mildly uncomfortable. It's not pleasant to reflect that I -- or any one of us -- might one day find ourselves in the same position you have.

I've received a reply from Flickr Support, below:

Quote

I forwarded your suggestion to our Product Development team for consideration as a potential feature to add to Flickr in a future update.

While I do not have a time frame for if/when this would be put into effect, they are now aware that this is something that people on Flickr would like to see as an option.

I had also asked if it were possible to reverse the removal of all my images from galleries, but apparently that can't be done, so 12 years of that has gone down the drain thanks to this person's actions. I'm going to tentatively re-enable the gallery option now, and monitor it closely over the next few days.

I did find out - much to my regret - that had I blocked the person first (instead of disabling the addition of my images to any galleries) that would have stopped them from being able to add my images, as well as removing any of my images from only their gallery, while leaving all other galleried images intact. That was a big live-and-learn moment, I can tell you. So -  if this ever happens to you or to anyone else on Flickr - note that just blocking the person (via the About section of their profile) will be enough to stop it. My kneejerk reaction was to stop the gallery addition, so that's where I headed first of all, and I've paid heavily for it :(

Having had a good night's sleep (after ending up working myself in a migraine over this) I'm now a lot calmer about it, and will be making my Flickr response image private. I may even remove it, since although visitors to my page won't see it I still will, and I don't really want to be continually reminded of it.

Quite likely rather an attempt to "promote" their group than to pay tribute to your photo.

...men complaining about their SL fashion options. Sure you have fewer options, but have you ever looked at what the majority of female outfits are?

Yoga pants. Jeans shorts. Generic ultra short skirts. Abyssal cleavage shirts and crop tops. Repeated forever, yet expressing nothing.

Then I go visit one of the man-shops to help friends and drool over all the cool shirts and pants and accessories.

*sits down all m-alts and friends, handing them some paper and a pen to take notes*

Gentlemen, listen up and pay attention, incoming tips and hints for non-Thug Life-gangsta-wear incoming, preferably with pants matching more than just that single selected pair of shoes especially made for them, not looking like it's meant to be worn by beanstick legs, and not the same as every other decent male avatar is wearing... nice new shirt you got there, you three...

... Cinos, your turn.

Well, I still think that women are better off than men when it comes to fashion choices, although there seem to be a small handful of creators for men's clothes who are very good. The endless supply of hoodies and track pants on offer for men . . . I'd probably go mad if I were a man. And were I in the market for a partner or boyfriend, gosh would I judge the prospects for their inability to look further. (Actually, one of the only really appealing things, for me anyway, about having an SL boyfriend would be the opportunity it might inevitably afford to supervise a complete makeover of the sad, unfortunate sod . . .)

But yeah, it's hard not to agree that women's fashion is in serious doldrums right now. The big two or three makers all specialize in exactly the same thing (to the point where I can barely distinguish them): slightly sexied-up young suburban mum. And the vast bulk of the other stuff . . . yeesh. And forget trying to create an individual look -- mixing and matching is almost impossible because of the lack of compatibility between makers, while the tendency to sell outfits / ensembles means that everyone ends up wearing the same combinations.

The utter lack of creativity and imagination on display is breathtaking.
