Alpha layers....

Hi all,

I was wondering is it possible to use the alpha layer (clothing layer in secondlife) to actually apply a tattoo as opposed to using the tattoo layer, I'm just curious as someone yesterday told me their tattoo was on the alpha layer and well I've never used the alpha layers and just wondered if anyone could advise me on the use of the alpha layers.

Well actually you just drop an alpha based texture in there (your appearance -> tattoo layer) and that is pretty much it. I don't see it much in use in SL however.

An alpha based texture is a texture with a transparant back ground btw. It can also be used for tight fitting clothes.

all the Avatar Alpha Clothing Layer can do is cut holes in the texture surface of the avatar, it doesn't apply any color information. it treats any alpha in the texture as something to cut out, and any color is ignored.

cool thats cured that little curiousity that i had lol...now for the next one...hmm i wonder when thats gonna pop up in my brain...hopefully not for a few days now, thankyou for the replies Linda Brynner and Void Singer, very informative
