I have set my Linden Home to my group and the other owner of the group can't access the About Land panel to be able to Add people to the land when she is there, what more do I need to do besides set it to the group?

You would need to be able to deed the land to your group, but that's not allowed with a Linden Home, as others have explained.  If you want other group members to be able to manage land, they have to be members of the group that owns the land. To do that, you'll have to abandon your Linden Home and buy or rent a parcel elsewhere.

how do I find the mainland I can use? I tried looking in the auction tab but nothing comes up there

Don't buy at auction.  For right now, at least, the Auction facility is off line while Linden Lab is working on an upgrade.  You'll find more property for sale by current owners anyway.  Look in  the Land forums for Mainland properties to buy, or use your map to identify land for sale by owner as you fly around Mainland regions.  I strongly advise taking Lindal Kidd's free class on land ownership and management at Caledon Oxbridge University in world this Saturday at noon SLT.  She covers these topics and others very well.

YW.  Good luck.  Just be patient and persistent.  Land is one of the more complicated and confusing topics in SL. There's a lot to learn and it's easy to make mistakes if you try to do too much before you have an idea of how things work.  In addition to taking Lindal's class, I'd advise you to start reading articles in the Knowledge Base that relate to land management.
