Btw. if you are going to influence some startup's stock value because you want to buy it whole cheap you have to hit some random targets as well, don't just attack the primary target, that would be like playing with open cards,...

Attacks are cheap, a good coverup costs a bit more...

Have Linden Lab confirmed or said anything about the problems over the last week to confirm that these are DDOS attacks?

April Linden confirmed that the login issues this past Sunday (US) were due to DDoS attack. If I run across the post again, I"ll link it.

Frankly, I think the log in issues that have been on going all week are symptomatic of that attack. Either because something got really messed up or the attack is being continued.

Doesn't look any different than usual but of course these maps are not entire accurate.

Not even close to accurate. They are little more then a pretty display watching a few common ports. They miss a lot of the traffic and a lot of the attack styles. They also don't truely show the source of any attacks, just intermediate steps of them.

Mostly, ignore those Maps, their only real purpose is to "Wow!" boardroom people into spending money on security.

They posted a  blog about the Sunday downtime being DDoS.  Since everything since then has behaved the same, we've been going under the assumption that all the later ones have also been DDoS attacks.

Yep, just look at all the irate people posting on the forums each time it goes down.

Oh, why aren't datacenters and service providers not protected against DDoS attacks. There is always something like a DMZ option available to prevent this crap.

Some are better equipped to handle it than others.  It takes a lot of money to have enough equipment to handle an attack - and that means a larger company than what LL is.

welp, yes, but when something huge is happening is actually can be seen. But has to be really bad.
