Hey, all.

As the title already points out, I'm new to SL and working on finding my way around as best as possible. When it comes to working, it's freelance stuff. Which isn't very lucrative. But anyhow, I'm 21 years-old and frankly, despite adding friends or having been added, still feeling a bit lonely. 

So, if you feel like just going from club to club or shop to shop, or if you like RP (SFW/NSFW are both fine with me), anything fun and whatnot, really. I haven't exactly found a preference since I'm sure there's so much more I've yet to discover. But do feel free to add me, I'm generally a pretty respectful and talkative person, although maybe a bit awkward at times. In-world username is the same as my forum name here. I'll try to get back to anyone who sends a request ASAP. Male or female, straight or not straight, I'm open to anyone who at least have some sort of personality (please don't let the first words out of your mouth be "sex?") and aren't extremely rude or anything. And I only use text for the time being. Hopefully that's okay.

Well, I meant as in the first text being from someone asking or begging for sex. I'm sorry, I should've been more clear.

Do not ever let someone else dictate what is and isn't okay when it comes to voice or cam stuff, or any other kind of RL interaction. If you'd prefer to stick to text communication, then that is 100% okay. It is up to you, and you alone.

There's a small but sadly vocal part of the community that will demand voice verification before they're willing to be anything more than acquaintances with a female avatar. Feel free to tell them to "go forth and multiply". Broadly speaking, they're either hopeless romantics using Second Life as an alternative to OkCupid, or barely-disguised homophobes that are scared of catching "the gay disease" by typing words at a man across the internet. ?

On a similar note, if you'd prefer to present yourself as a 'woman' rather than 'trans woman', that's also 100% fine, as is doing the reverse. Do what makes you feel comfortable, don't feel like you have to 'out' yourself if you'd prefer not to. This is SL, you could be a dog behind the keyboard and no one would be the wiser.

To be honest, I'm half convinced some of the regular posters here are dogs behind the keyboard. It certainly would explain a lot. ?

Welcome to SL and the Forums, Siri!

As a new resident, you may find some of the following useful (or not...your mileage may vary!)

  • These forums themselves are a great community.  Some of the regulars spend more time here than they do in world.
  • Visit some of the places in the Destinations Guide, especially newcomer-friendly places like Caledon Oxbridge University, New Resident Island, or Firestorm Help Island.  Not only do they have lots of information about SL, and live helpers to answer your questions, they are good places for newcomers to meet friends.
  • Remember that CTRL+Q, or the big X in the corner, are always available.  If you get into a situation where you feel uncomfortable, you can log off until you can pull yourself back together.
  • Some people don't know when to take No for an answer.  One good response is to right click them, select Block, then teleport elsewhere.
  • You never have to give out any Real Life information about yourself that you don't want to.  People who insist that you do fall into the category discussed in the previous bullet.
  • Most of the people I've met who "get" SL use text to communicate.  Maybe that is simply that I am a text-oriented person and have always preferred it to voice.  Don't be apologetic for using text.  All the best people do!

It is true though, at least for the most part: Sensible people nowadays don't care whether or not you're a boy, a girl, otherkin, or whatever other gender there is, and would rather judge on merits and interactions. Momma always told me it's what's inside a person that counts the most, and we're all the same color on the inside, ain't we?

Just a quick question? Why do so many new users automatically become escorts before they know how SL works? I mean, 2 weeks in and you are already an escort? Good lord, wander about first, get to know how everything works, make some friends, learn to emote for Cthulhu's sake. If you moved to a new country in RL would your first thoughts be "I need to become an escort." Why does ever newbie think thats going to make them money?

Precisely because they don't really know how SL works. The concept of a game in which the majority of players have no ingame currency income is a strange one. The mindset of most newbies is "I need a job so I can buy stuff -> I lack the skills to create stuff to sell -> Please pay me to host/dance/escort as I guess that's the only option". Then there's the "I've always wanted to try something like that, but not in real life" taboo factor. The Inworld Employment section is full of examples of this.

I took a couple of steps down that path myself, when I was brand new, but I very quickly realised that spending my free time catering to someone else's needs was not for me. I don't do on-request photography either, for the same reason. Some lessons can only be learned the hard way.

Well, I apologize I guess. Didn't know how much worked in SL until I got settled down and actually explored for a while.
