Any place in Second Life that simulates a realistic ecosystem?

No, there really isn't.  Very very early, when SL was still in development and called "Linden World", there were snakes and birds.  The snakes ate the birds and when they did, they grew bigger.  The region of Svarga has a system of bees and flowers that interact with one another.  (Svarga is very much worth a visit...it is one of the oldest regions in SL, and everything in it is made with prims.  No mesh, no sculpties.)

There are the many sorts of "breedables"...animals which can create offspring, follow some of the rules of genetics, and require food, water, and care in order to survive.

I've always thought that SL could use a more realistic system of weather and an ecology.  But if we had them, we'd probably get it wrong and wind up with monster hurricanes and red tide algae blooms.

You know, with a food chain, and a complex web of interaction between many different organisms?

As SL is user generated content you could do one ... damn now I feel tempted to apply for a LEA sim with a agent based simulation of life ...

It is 100% possible to edit existing breedable scripts to make a kind of ecosystem, just by making the food prim "grow" on a tree or plant instead of behind paywall. For the things that eat the food , they themselves  can be scripted as food for bigger animals, and so on and so forth. The only thing that might stop it is script lag on a simulator, considering the amount of scripted items you would need. Realistic complexity in an ecosystem would require multiple "herbivores" eating their food, multiple "Carnivores" eating the herbivores, and scripted static objects. There are free breedable scripts out there to play with; it's just a matter of land and script resources.

Svarga from year 2006 did original work as full functional eco system - made total with prims - just visit to be astonished on what was accomplished with simple prims.

Sadly somewhere after 2010 those functions has stopped. Else there were rain clouds randomly watered plants which would then grow to be subsequently pollinated by virtual bees.

Still worth a visit a visit, be sure to ride the wasp from landing point.
