Graphics settings are a matter of taste if your card can handle it, I would put it all on Ultra settings and if the performace suffers just reduce it to a level that gets you the best display for the least loss of performance. Personally I am willing to sacrifice some performance to have things looking cool, but others could care less how things look so long as everything runs as fast and smoothly as possible.

Happens when you have a brand new GPU, that SL doesn't recognise, so to be safe it defaults to the minimum settings...

I prefer ULTRA, and the shadow and lighting options all on in the develop menu, but that is a killer for all gpus... including the 6970 which i have... eye-candy YES!
