I am posting thisin the Relationship Section because the basis of all interaction in second life is with other people.  In otherwords, second life is nothing without people/  In addition, while second life is not a structure game per se wiith a speciflc goal, I propose, based on anthrological considers, that the denizens of second life have created a culture that is essentally a game in its purist definition and the game involves the nefarious pursue of a person's affections.  And yes, the important word is nefarious.  Because second life culture is basically lawless, people are free to take advantage of and exploit the affections of the more innocent members of second life which results in a lot of bad feelings, broken hearts, and crushed egos.

I propose this lawless and nefarious nature of second life that works to exploit the affections of other (usually solely for ego gratification and often Lindens) s the reason why usership numbers never go up.  People get burned in second life and once that happens, second life becomes a bad experience for them and they leave.

In essense,  second life culture is pernicious.  No one in their right mind can argue that slavery is not wrong.  That rape is not a terrible violence and that betraying someone you say you love is forgivable and yet all this and more perversions exist in second life.  A lot people will say it's their right to be immoral and hurt other people but I know it is not.

Unless or until this stops, I suggest you avoid second life.  Like Pinocchio , it will turn you into a donkey.

I'm not tallking about Gor or role playing.  That's different because everyone knows it's a game.   I'm talking about the willingness of people in second life to manipulate the affections of other for nefarious purposes.  For example, in the dance clubs or on beach.   Not on the bridge of the Enterprise.

Alt for someone very salty? Or just someone who's clueless about "avoiding things that they don't like"?

Thank you.  You proved my point.  The reason why usership numbers do not go up is because people don't like second life and the only thing that makes second life go are the people in it.  Basically selfish people.  Yes.  An alt of someone who is very salty and has done it all in second life and now I speaking my mind about it.

I didn't know every single resident in SL needed to be protected personally. If you're acting like this it tells me you're either too sensitive or too young to be alone in a virtual world, so you should get supervision or just be a good grown up and just avoid places you don't like. Unless you also visit places you don't like often IRL too.

Through a 1 post alt which kinda stops people taking you seriously.  How many new accounts do we see on here that say  "On my main..."  "I have been in second life for 14 years old my other account"  etc etc  If you find people so selfish,  it apparently hasn't stopped you logging in on your other account then.

Ladies, please try to address the topic.

Why usership numbers never go up?

Hummmmmm? What's your thoughts.  l'm saying it is bascially perverted and should be rated x.  I recent read a post by some girl who said she was 11 years old prostituting herself on second life and that her school work was suffering and all she could think about was second life and sex.   That's pernicious to me.

Can you comment on that?

I disagree based on your given point that the people of second life have "created a culture" and that a culture is emphatically not a game.

So Maddy is to blame? :)

I'm not sure I am following your thoughts but from what I am getting, you had a bad experience therefore all of SL is doomed.

Sl membership has been declining over the past 12 years.  This is a given and easily verified by public data.  No speculation needed.  However, decline in membership over time is not in any way unique to SL.   In fact, the decline curve of SL concurrency is much flatter than other similar platforms including MMOs like EverQuest and World of Warcraft.

I feel for you that your girl friend turned out to not be a girl friend as you had hoped.  This is not Second Life's fault; it's just life.  Before your joined SL, ever relationship you had ever had ended in one way or another.  Why would SL be different?  It's just the result of being born and life ain't fair. Everyone has gone through it so don't feel like life is picking on you personally.  You can pick up the pieces and move on or you can let that person change you for ever.  It's all up to you what you do.

You continue to attack me and you fail to address the issue.

I read it posted on the internet.  I do not the girl personally.  https://www.commonsensemedia.org/website-reviews/second-life/user-reviews/child

Don't even think about it

All I can say is that I started when I was only eleven. Ran a fairly successful business, had many happy customers. But there are malicious people out there, my business was taken down in a day because someone stole my stuff and sold it as their own. That's only the beginning. Sex is everywhere in second life. You can't buy a skin without genitals. Zoophilia, Pedophilia, Rape, all a part of this hidden disgusting world. I even remember being roped into escorting at one point. I was twelve. Didn't know better. This experience ruined me, I can't even go online without feeling the sick urge to go on. It's painfully addicting. Not a day goes by where I don't wonder- "Oh.. I wonder how my customers are?" And "That nice furry boy.. How do you think he is? Go talk to him!" It hurts. I'm typing this in my 5th period orchestra class because I can't keep my mind off of it.. Never let your kids deal with what I am fighting. This world is awful. It caused turmoil in my family, I stole my mothers credit card and charged hundreds of dollars to buy houses, sex toys.. I was a shopaholic sex-addict at twelve. And my grades? Terrible. I went form being in the 99th percentile down to 75 something? Never again will I let it consume me. Please- I pray to god don't let your kids do what I did. OH. And linden labs charged my Paypal account (I had a nice little stake from commissions) to leave. IT IS A SCAM. DON'T DO IT- IT'S NOT WORTH IT.

Ronda:

You do not know why I am posting and it has nothing to do with anyone specifically.  It's second life.  Please try to explain to me why usership numbers never go up even though 600000 sign up every month.  I say it is the people of second life, like you.  You are very rude.

Apparently there are a lot of kids on there.  That's not the only review by a young girl that I have read on the internet saying that second life turned her into a sex addict.

But more than that,  I say second life is pernicious.  It will turn an adult into a donkey and it has done many times.

What in the hell kind of BS crap is that site? 41 kids under the age of 12 using SL?! Riiight, like that isn't faked by someone. Been in SL for 12 years, explored all of the grid in that time and only came across a paedo sim once. ONCE! I call BS on your crap.

You want reasons, I can give you reasons.

They tried it, and their machines can't run it that well, so they left, since they deemed it "unplayable".
They thought they could get rich quick, and when reality catched up with them, they left.
They had simply different expectations, so they left.
They have less time now than they had when they signed up.

I can go on. I'm sure some people do leave as sl due to the reasons you posted, but I doubt it's everyone.

Edit:
Okay, there are MILLIONS of sites that tell you they can make your pee-pee bigger. Do you believe them, cause there are many of those?

The sheer number of people that have posted here in the forums about SL helping them come out of their shells, finding their RL love, Opening a business that pays their RL bills, Giving them the courage to start a RL graphics arts business is simply immense. That alone outweighs any supposed 11 year olds in here. I say again, having been here for as long as i have and gone to some seriously shady places, i call BS on that.

Can you give me some statistics Drake?

Also if second life is so great why aren't usership numbers going up.

I know what that word means and I mean it.  That word.  If you want make something of it, draw your sword and choose your words carefully for I am ready to battle today.

Only the ones that can't figure out how to move past getting hurt, which is many cases is the current generation of snowflakes because their parents never allowed them to experience any hurt feelings as a child (everyone gets a trophy, we randomly assign teams so that nobody gets picked last, etc...).
