how can i change clothes but not my entire avatar

I have just recently been on SL and I want to know how to change my clothes but not my entire avatar. I get really annoyed trying to figure it out can someone help me?

There are a number of ways.

You can drag individual clothing items or attachments onto your avatar from your inventory.

You can double click them in your inventory (this does not work for attachments on all viewers)

You can right click them and select "wear" which will put them onto your avatar in place of anything that was already in that place.

You can right-click and select "Add" which will put them onto your avatar in addition to anything that was already in that place.

Sounds like you might be in Basic mode.  Next time you log in, change to Advanced mode and you will have many more options to choose from.

Hello kat. Start as Peewee suggested. When you finish, use the command SAVE AS (down in your inventory), to save your changes in a new outfit and name it. Have in your mind to log in Advanced mode.
