Hi I recently ran into a new phenomenon - my block list goes poof and all the SPAMing mall owners that added me without consent are sending me stuff again - I am not very happy but now I wonder: is blocking a server or viewer sided action? Where can I look for a solution?

It's a bit of both & when the cached block list gets out of sync with the server block list, blocks can fail.

I'm not 100% sure how it all works, but as far as I understand it:
Your block list is stored on the LL servers, so if you login with clean cache, the block list will download.
You have a local cached copy of your block list stored in the viewer cache folder named YOUR_AVATAR_UUID.cached_mute
You can open this file in a text editor.

If something "goes wrong" when the viewer loads the cached block list during the login process, the block list can be empty or partly empty & blocks will then fail.
The block list file can become corrupted (because aliens...) or it could be so large that it can't or doesn't load into the viewer in time.
