You could use those lindens to bid on a different parcel, or to buy a parcel from someone who is selling a parcel directly. It seems to me that you have some unusual practices about how you choose and buy land that are outside the normal range, and that is the reason that this change appears to affect you so much. For me, this change won't be a problem, and it makes a lot of sense to me for the money to be held in escrow until the auction is lost or completed. I was surprised that this wasn't already a requirement for bidding. I also don't see this as benefitting large landowners.
