Why does the SL hand logo appear on some water sims and not others?

I have noticed that some water sims in Second Life have been terraformed so that the large Second Life hand logo appears on the Map. Does it mean something that some sims and not others show this logo?  Is there a list of such sims?

I assume it's just decoration, a flight of fancy by whichever Lindens created those sims. I only know of one, at Omidyar in Sansara. I can't imagine what use a list of them would be. There is also a group of islands arranged in the shape of a 2, which is probably another SL reference, at Zolezzi in Sansara.

Wait? A giant hand? Like... let's see what this reminds me of ... the Second Life Logo? No, I have no idea why a Linden employee would do that, sorry ...

Did you look in the TOP LEFT corner of this forum page just above the word "community"? You might find a clue!

I do know what the hand means. I apologize if my question wasn't clear. My question is why those particular sims and not others were chosen. I thought maybe it might mean something.

I think it probably means that whoever was tasked with terraforming those regions had access to a bitmap to terrain file converter.

It was done WAY BACK when SL was still all shiny and stuff so that logo would "salt-and-pepper" all over the world map the same way the pornclubs and landbarons do it now, except they place stuff in the sky.

hehe when I was younger in SL I always wondered about the amount of brothels on the map... until I found out it was a land baron...

It's for pretty much the same reason the English country side is littered with huge white horses, and pictures of giants with big... "clubs"... carved into the turf on chalk hillsides...

I haven't been able to confrim this, but apparently Omidyar, the sim with the hand, was the very first sim on the grid, added even before Da Boom but kept as a secret test sim at first.

Is there another one besides Omidyar? Omidyar is named for Pierre Omidyar, a founding board member of Second Life and of course famous for founding e-bay. He used to come into SL on an alt some times, I met him once and also talked to him on Twitter. He used to passionately believe in SL as some sort of Better World machine. He had a chief of staff who used to be a Linden and they ran this organization and forums for non-profits I used to take part in. All of it is long gone now. I think he has totally moved on from SL and I don't believe he's even on the board any more. The sea with his name and the hand was likely because he was an early venture capitalist for SL.

I thought I had seen other hands, but now I am wondering if I just saw the same hand multiple times.
