Any way to avoid profiles loading via browser in v2.5 or v2.6?

Okay, so I was unhappy with the browser-based profiles when I tried v2.5, so I retro-installed v2.4 just so I could have the ease and joy of profiles without all that screen wastage and time delay.  At the same time, I blocked my web profile so I'm 'unsearchable' due to the limited privacy options available at the time ... and that has been a bit of a pain in the neck since I get a few IMs telling me I don't exist ... which is somewhat surreal at times.

I haven't been following the wiki or forums, but I see there's a new v2.6 which I wouldn't mind trying *if* it doesn't have the browser-based profiles.  Can someone let me know if there's a work-around so you don't load profiles via browser for v2.5 or if they put that option in v2.6 please?  Otherwise, I'm sticking with v2.4 and to heck with bouncing boobs!

Oh, and I'm using a Mac on OSX 10.6.7 if that makes any difference.

Hi Naerose,

They do seem to be very unpopular as well as not working properly for many people, but it would appear that they are the future and eventually it will be the only option on all viewers.

For now you can look around to see which of the 3rd party viewers are still offering the best of both worlds, I would suggest checking out Kristens and Firestorm.

I fully agree with you Naerose, i dont like the new web profiles too but i compromised with them as a fan of Viewer 2. It's really annoyable to have to check a profile and to cover almost all your monitor, plus the delay to open sometimes, but we cant do something different. :robotsad:

Thanks, Peewee - does Kirstens and Firestorm use v2 UI? I would go over to Phoenix as I was a fan of Emerald until they went evil, but from what I've seen Phoenix is still using a v1 interface and I don't think I could remember how to do that anymore! Besides, I've noticed that when my rl partner is using Phoenix, it really seems to chew up the bandwidth, but I could be imagining that.

Thanks - yes, it does suck, but I understand it's the way things are headed and I know the reasons about server storage, blah blah. I'm also a fan of v2 since it took me so damn long to get used to it, and I persevered until I got the hang of it, that I'm reluctant to give it up now.

You are welcome Naerose. I admit that Phoenix has important advantages instead of V2 like radar or easier way to build (i consider is futile / unnecessary to report this moment more) but i learnt to play with V2, i loved it and now i cant stand without it, like you
(often i am online with Phoenix most to check out the commands/menus and features).

I totally do not like having to go to web page to see profiles, PLUS I can't get it to work anyway!. Also on this new viewer, where oh where is search for people gone? Has it been removed because it makes no sense to even have it now that people can hide that they exist? Has anyone ever tried to file an AR only to find they cannot because the person does not show up as existing? I so long for the old format of controls, sighs. This format takes up most my viewing screen and cannot edit the boxes to make them smaller, plus I totally dislike the way messages display, pop up etc.. I just wish LL would stop putting all the fancy but totally unfunctional things on new viewers and concentrate on improving crashing & lag by getting more servers instead of putting several SIMS on a server then telling us we can't use most of the things we buy because we are causing the lag. Would be nice if the pets we buy did not go flying off, or returned off others' property, sick, because the lag is so bad.. Of course these things have been told by so many for so long to them, doubt anything to improve the situation will happen. I would go back to another viewer except my graphics card works a little better with the SL viewer, So many people told me they hated the SL viewer, I just tried the brand new and improved SL viewer , and I sure can see why people are not happy with it.

Yes Naerose, both of those are v2 viewers, Firestorm is actually the Phoenix v2 viewer, it is still in alpha testing but already proving to be extremely popular. Kristens has been v2 for some time. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory

I just want to be able to get to profiles! The web based browser we have to go to (which is stupid and unsafe) will not work in my computer's Firefox or SL's browser. Also having people able to not show up is a pain and a blessing for those who need to be AR'd on.. But even worse is no spot to leave notes. WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS FIXING THINGS THAT DO NOT NEED FIXING,MAKING THEM WORSE, AND NOT FIX THINGS THAT DO? Seriously.

The frustrating thing is that before web profiles, I could see anyone's profile. Now if they block it on the web, even if I am in SL, I can't see it at all.

2.4 is stil the best option of pre-web profiles version
