second life viewer not working with windows 8.1

how can I fix this? got new laptop and sl viewer will  not work it is WINDOWS8.1   I  do not like firestorm viewer I prefer the second life viewer

A "new" laptop with Windows 8.1?  Did you buy this off the back of a truck or something? 

Never mind...but we will need more information from you.  Please go to your Control Panel, System, and give us some specs about your system.  Most especially, what graphics card are you using?  Also, what do you mean "SL viewer will not work"?  What error message(s) do you get when you try to install and/or run it?

We know the Linden viewer works with Windows 8.1.

We also know that some laptops use HD Graphics and some use a dedicated video chip, like an NVIDIA 780m. If the laptop attempts to save power and fails to detect SL viewer as a graphics intense program the video chip gets turned off.

The HD Graphics is part of the Intel CPU. Intel CPUs before 4th gen have insufficient graphics power for SL use. Generally the viewer will provide an error message to that effect. 

So, we have to know a bunch about your computer to help.
