Lines that annoy you most

Recommended Posts

The way I figure it is, why let a stranger have that much influence over me? So I just respond in a way which suits what I'm doing or how busy I am. I probably annoyed some people when I was new and figuring out the etiquette of this strange new world too, probably still do if what I think is a polite start has been used by too many others who also think it's a polite start. So I'm willing to give people some slack, at least to begin with.

If the typist turns out to be a randy sex seeker, I'll kindly explain that I'm not interested. If the randy sex seeker pretends to what to be friends anyway, well those conversations pretty much always end up in my main store with the randy sex seeker pretending to be interested in ancient art and there is much humour to be found in that situation :D

So send me a ur hawt and you just might find yourself hearing ALLLLL about this really fascinating culture in what's now Afghanistan and Pakistan called Gandhara which left, amongst other things, some brilliant artefacts, often out of red or yellow sandstone, combining Greek and Buddhist imagery and artistic styles. Cause that's how I roll baby. B|

Life's too short to waste it being annoyed at others.

I'm definitely sending you an IM saying "ur hawt" then! Just finished a great book called "The Search for the Buddha" about some early archaelogical explorations in the Indian sub-continent!

What always amuses me is how often a dismissal of the abrupt random sex-seeker ends up with a very meek "OK." As in:

Random Sex Seeker: ur hawt wanna do me now?

Me: Thanks, but I am really just taking some pictures here, that's why I am standing still in this awkward position.

RSS: OK [end of conversation]

I mean I wonder what the success rate with that approach actually is. Some real conversation might catch my attention, even after such an opening salvo. But then again I am also amazed at the sheer quantity of obvious spam littering the internet -- SOMEBODY must occasionally buy Viagra by clicking a link in the spam cluttered web forum devoted to tricks for homebaked crumpets. I guess the strategy is the same.

Something more than that? Oh you want to be a customer and buy my art, I will send you a TP to the gallery so you can pick out what you want to buy.

I can handle (ignore) the "Hi, sex?" perfectly, they don't annoy me. What annoys me is the tricksters. They start a conversation with something that even sounds like an a normal maybe even interesting chat or serious inquiry, but eventually has the same end goal as the "Hi, sex?" ones.

I do by default always have an auto reply on saying "I'm currently AFK" so I can pick the ones I respond to, and play AFK to the ones I don't like.

Yeah, those are annoying, had one of them in the past. Posed as a nice dude, didn't imply anything at all, until he asked me when we'd be "playing". Then he was all about he's only on sl to play, else he doesn't wanna talk to me, basicly. But in the end, that's his loss, not mine.

Nowadays I don't really care about those anymore, because in the end, all they do is wasting their time, not mine.

I was trying to think of a way to phrase this one!

His close cousin is the guy that seems nice, but tries to guilt you and is so self deprecating it becomes unattractive.

Often you can shorten those conversations by pulling the rug out under them while playing their same “not my intention” game, i.e:

[15+ minutes of seemingly normal introductory conversation, with only the vaguest hints of what they’re angling for]...
- Him: “You seem suddenly distracted... are you busy?”
- You: “Sorry, I was ending a couple IMs and blocking them... you know, the sex-starved type, seemingly incapable of as much as grasping any other form of human interaction; some might pretend a minute or two of normality, even simple friendliness, but in the end it’s clear they don’t actually know how to think of anything else. Bleh.”
- Him (after a somewhat lengthy pause): “Yeah, that’s not nice”.

Thereafter, 9 out of 10 times the conversation will fade pretty quickly.

This is exactly what I do - I leave my AFK on at all times to screen messages. My friends, I try to answer right away if I'm available..

Unknown randos may or may not get a response back, depending on my mood and the content of their PM.

This is precious.

It is now my new method of dealing with those guys.

Auto-response to non-friends: "I'm sorry. The number you have dialed is busy. Please hang up and try again later."

Haven't been pestered by a single loser or their cousin, moron, since leaving that on.

Although I try to be understanding of newbies and socially awkward people starting conversations with just a "hi" in IM,  it does get old.   Shifting the burden of chat to me is destined to fail.  I am no better at small talk in SL than I am in RL.

If I get even a hint of a sexual pass, I'm out, but subtly.   I ask them what they like to do in SL.  The standard answers are clubbing, meeting people, live music, having fun with the ladies.  That question is almost always returned to me.  After I answer with attending science lectures,  atheist talks, visiting art installations and nature sims, it's all over.  Anyone who sticks around after that might be a keeper of a friend.

The very rare occasion that my "no thank you" turns into attempts to insult with responses like 'you must be a lesbian or a guy in real life',  I ask if that has ever worked for them.  Does accusing someone of being lesbian or a guy lead a gal to trying everything in her power to prove you wrong?  Has anyone ever agreed to sex, voice,  or camming because you questioned their sexual orientation or gender?

It's wordy and takes time, but it is effective and can be fun.

Just "hi" is still the most annoying.

They accuse you of being a lesbian or a G.I.R.L because they can't handle rejection, no matter how mild they get turned down. It's not about getting you to undo your decision, it's about them trying to save face, even if it's just for themselfes.

I agree alot with the hugs and kisses ... Usually if they say  * kisses* i will respond with , sorry cant kiss back, just had pizza with garlic .  and the other that completely irritates me is " HUGGIES".. ok correct me if  i am wrong, but where I am from, Huggies is diapers they use here for babies . .  Window gets closed and person ignored the second its used .

Maybe someone once sent 'huggles' to someone,  meaning 'hugs,' of course. But the recipient misread, or mistyped, and inadvertantly replaced the 'l' with an 'i' when sending hugs to someone else, and so the nappies version spread :o

Well, maybe.
