Question

it has come to my attention  that premium residents have access to 512 square m of free property. Nowhere have I found any information on how to claim this property or where it may be located.  I would love any help in clearing this up.

If you read the responses from Jim and Fluffy carefully, you will notice a very subtle bit of wording that should be well-understood by Premium members but may still not be clear to you.  There is no such thing as "Free Land" in SL for anyone.  As a premium member, you get a waiver for the monthly land fess that you pay the Linden Lab for up to 1024 sq m of land on the mainland (not in private estates).  You may use that waiver in either of two ways.  You may use part of it to pay the monthly fees on a Linden Home, which comes on its own 512 sq m parcel.  If so, that would leave you with the remaining 512 sq m waiver for land elsewhere.  Or, you may use the entire waiver for paying monthly fees on a total of 1024 sq m on mainland.

The subtle points here are:

(1) the land itself is not "free".  You must pay the one-time purchase price of the land in order to own it. ( In the case of a Linden Home,  you never own the land. You are simply "renting" it as part of the fees that you paid for your Premium membership.  Any SL resident may rent land anywhere in SL, if the landowner sets it available for rent. ) When you buy land anywhere, you pay the current landowner, which might be Linden Lab or another SL resident.

(2) If you later decide to leave the land, you may abandon it or you may  resell it to another resident, unless it is a Linden Home parcel.  You can only abandon a Linden Home, since you never owned it in the first place.  You don't get any refund for the part of your Premium membership that entitled you to live there.

(3) You may use the land fee waiver on a single parcel or on a combination of unrelated parcels, as long as the total land area is no greater than 1024 sq m. If you own more land, you pay the same regular monthly fees for that extra that basic members do.

(4) If you don't use the land fee waiver, you can't get a refund for it, and you cannot sell it to another resident, although you can share it with a group, to cover part of the fees on land that the group owns.

Hi. As premium member you can have a Linden home or a parcel of 512 (and since few days 1024) sqm.

Just buy a parcel on mainland, it will require to pay a price in Linden dollars to the current owner, then the maintenance is included in your premium account.

Mainland only.

Cheers

You can find more general information on Linden Homes on this page and the signup page for requesting your own is here.

As JimTondini pointed out they only recently increased the amount of land you get for free from 512 to 1024 and the linden home plots are still only 512 so if you want to take advantage of your full allowance then you'll need to go buy a plot on the mainland, but if all you want is a free home at no cost then just signup for a linden home.
