animats
Whatever happened with the 64-bit Linux viewer? That's mentioned in various places as "real soon now", but the downloadable viewer is 32-bit only. The latest Linux desktop distros are 64-bit only. Nobody runs 32-bit on big machines any more. Apple just announced end of life for 32-bit applications. (I just need to run the SL viewer to report bugs.I run Firestorm for real use.) Whirly Fizzle
LL dropped Linux support in 2015. However, not all is lost. The Alex Ivy project (LL 64bit viewers) has now been promoted to default release, but both 32 & 64bit builds are currently broken on Linux. You'll notice on the downloads page at https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ that the Linux download link takes you to the Linux Spur viewer, which is the last viewer build available before Alex Ivy was merged in. The lastest update was on this blog post: Quote About Linux … at this time, we don't have a Linux build for this updated viewer. We do have a project set up to get that back. We're reorganizing the Linux build so that instead of a tarball, it produces a Debian package you can install with the standard tools, and rather than statically linking all the libraries it will just declare what it needs through the standard package requirements mechanism. We'll post separately on the opensource-dev mailing list with information on where that project lives and how to contribute to it. To keep up to date, you can join the osdev mailing list here: https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/opensource-dev
Anna Nova
I have no problem in running the LL linux viewer (SLV), OK it's 32 bit, but that just means a few extra libraries. I only keep it for Havok uploads when occasionally I (think I) need them. Otherwise Linux Firestorm just gets better and better. And I can never find anything in the SLV. Thanks for the link Whirly.
