Change of resolution after stop of the Second life viewer

Recommended Posts

I suspect your problem is caused by running software on your system which sets a custom colour profile. This type of software is known to cause the problem shown in your images when you quit an SL viewer & it's usually seen on systems with Nvidia graphics.

The most common 3rd party software seen that causes this problem with SL viewers is f.lux, MSI True Color & Windows 10 night light.

There are bug reports filed for this problem:

Firestorm: FIRE-12561 -  f.lux custom color profile will cause video driver to fail upon exit of firestorm; MSI True Color

Firestorm: FIRE-21762 - Closing Firestorm causes display errors w/Night light on

LL viewer: BUG-202704 - Corrupted display after closing the viewer with Windows 10 "Night Light" enabled.

LL viewer: BUG-4782 -  Crazy colors upon closing

The problem is caused by the viewer changing the gamma ramps, and only happens when the a certain registry setting is enabled, as described here: http://jonls.dk/2010/09/windows-gamma-adjustments/ , specifically when

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ICM]

is set, which occurs with f.lux, redshift, and other gamma-changing programs.

There is a forum thread discussing the problem here:

How to fix this problem depends on which viewer you are using and whether you want to keep the program installed that's causing the problem.

If you happen to be using Firestorm viewer, there is a fix for this bug that will be in the 5.0.11 release of Firestorm, which all being well is going to be released this coming Wednesday.
If you are not using Firestorm, please can you comment back & tell us if you are indeed using f.lux or a similar program & which viewer you are using.
In the top menu bar of the viewer, go to Help -> About Second Life / viewer name, click the "Copy to clipboard" button & paste all your system information into a comment here.
