My sculpts from blender and maya are transferring over to SL distorted or spikey, what do i do?

Go to your debug menu and paste in RenderVolumeLODFactor and set it to at least 4 .

Also check your settings in edit (under where you see your UV map) to make sure you are using the right shape.
