Secret Society Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Looking for some suggestions...

I'm searching for a RP location I can run a Secret Society storyline. Ideally i'd like it to be someplace in modern time, perhaps with a light paranormal theme, or at least acceptance of "fantasy" or magical forces.

I'm interested in working within a RP community to build an intriguing secret society, itself being a conceptual hybridization of Masonic, Pagan and the obscurely occult. This is mostly a concept with which RPers will be able to interact and solve puzzles, peeling back the layers of mystery. My character personally may not be taking part is a ton of para-RP, as the project is basically the RP itself, but i do hope to find a unique location to build this idea within an existing town/city.

Open to any and all suggestions, or if you're interested in helping me craft this bizarre story just reply and I will get in touch! I have found a few good candidates, but I want to be sure I make the right choice :D

As hard as it is to find good  RP, this actually sounds interesting.

Thanks Janet! Hopefully I can find a nice home for this idea ^_^ I will be sure to follow up with details for anyone who might be interested....

For a format, I don't think you could go wrong with 'Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Salomonici', aka The Knights Templar. They persist all through the timelines from the 12th Century right up to now (at least in books and movies, and they must have it right, yes?). They'll work in any era and they are so secretive that naught but a few.....but perhaps I've said to much about that.

Hey, Dillon! Thanks for the suggestion! The Knights Templar are a great suggestion for thematic inspiration.

I will be taking a lot of cues from the Templar, Freemasons, Bohemian Grove, and a few sprinkles of Anonymous, Eyes Wide Shut, Scientology and Wicca! It will be a completely new hybridized system, enabling me to be as creative as I want, and also protecting from IRL research using tools like google to decipher imagery or symbols :D

Sounds cool as ever. Check out asphyxiation point or a few other communities. I’d be interested in joining. ?

Thanks for the Recommendation, Harrison! This project will go live on one sim or-another, and I will definitely post follow-up information here for all who are interested!

Hello Folks! I am still looking for an ideal location to build this project, but in the meantime I have been doing a lot of writing and world-building! I would talk about the details, but that wouldn't be very secretive now, would it ;-D!  Keep the suggestions coming, I am positive we can find a nice place to house this RP!!!

Have you checked out Nocturne? Modern city with vampires, werewolves and whatnot. Based on Vampire: The Masquerade - we do plenty of secret society sort of stuff over there.

Thanks for the suggestion, Orwar! However, I feel like this project needs a setting a little more grounded in reality. I want the participants to question the powers behind the Secrets; is it a magical power? Financial? Or perhaps its all a ruse! It's this air of mystery i seek to cultivate, I think that might do a bit better in a Sim where the paranormal isn't necessarily emphasized? I hope this makes sense! Regardless I am definitely going to check the sim out and give it an honest chance, for all I know it could be the perfect place :D

The supernatural aspects are very clandestine, the purpose of the Masquerade is to keep the general populace from knowing. =)

Ah I see! Well then I shall definitely take a closer look! I only know of Vampire : The Masquerade from seeing the books on store shelves aside my beloved 3rd edition D&D books, but I never dove into it personally. Thank you soo much for the information and the suggestion!!

HELLO FOLKS!!!

Thank you all for your patience. I am still ironing out the details regarding WHERE this strange concept will be hosted, but I have pretty much narrowed it down to two sims to chose from!

In the meantime, I want to open the storyline up to a few of those who might be interested!! I am now accepting 10 early-access residents to take the first steps of this journey! Here is a very brief description, don't want to give to much away now, would we ;-D

  • Chosen Residents will receive a letter in the mail leading them into the shadows.
  • You will be presented with clues to point you in the correct direction.
  • You will likely need to use both your knowledge of SL and real-life research to progress.

Please keep in mind that this concept is essentially in ALPHA! There will be lots of work being done before, during, and after the initial applicants participate. If you are mostly interested in the mysterious side of things, I may suggest to wait until the official opening, as there will be a lot of trial-and-error, as well as collaboration with early-access residents. Consider these play-tester positions, with of course some added benefits down the road for helping to construct this beast ;-D

ANYWAY! Please send me a notecard in-world if you are interested. Upon official launch there will be a website with a form for signing up, as well as more information about the project. For now it's nice and personal, just get in touch with me and I will invite you to the group to keep you updated!

Thanks again for all the interest everyone, i've had many sim suggestions, as well as folks who are just plain interested in getting involved, and i love it!! Lets make something weird and badass together ^_^

Greetings!

I am currently looking for a secret society/cult group to join our roleplaying sim Santa Ramona Valley. It's interesting you would come along with this as I have been turning over the idea of offering a "featured role" to the various roleplay seeking groups over the grid to see if anyone would be interested in beginning a secret society/cult RP group with us.  I call it serendipity :)  We're looking for a movement which can help us bring the weird factor up and an element of darkness and mystery. We are modern, urban, set in a valley town in California. I can build a base to suit if needed, I am sim owner so we can collaborate on whatever you need. We're not a fantasy sim, but do allow light supernatural elements as there are in real life (depending on what you believe in). Paranormal things can and will happen so long as we're not talking full out beezlebub trying to wipe out our population.

Let me know what you think! (also sent you an inworld note)

Just a reminder that first notecards will be going out before the end of the year, and the group is private you will need to be invited by myself after I receive your requests to join! Cheers!

Nice, Ken! Adding you to tha list!

I will be sending out starter kits before the new-year, apologies for the slow updates but I have been torn between a few sims to house the core of this project. Luckily, participants will have some steps to take before they are even revealed the final location! Anyway, more details and content coming soon, folks! Thanks for everyones interest and support!

If you add a little of Prok's socialism it almost sounds like the FIC.

It a real difficult situation for secret societies. I mean, they wants members, but if they goes around telling everyone, then they kinda not so secret as they seekin to be.

I mean, like, everyone has heard of the Freemasons, the Templars, anonymous and all them. I wishes you luck in making your society, but I gotta tell you, that the cat, as they say, is kinda outta the bag on this one. Unless it like, reverse psychology, where you says you is making a secret society, so we think you not, but really you actually is. That would be pretty clever.

Gotta keep eyes open and trust no-one!

It's more of a game than a Legit Secret Society.

There will be layers of clues and intrigue to peel away, leading to secrets that definitely cannot be known just by reading this thread.

The overall concept will be the Participants searching for answers, deciding for themselves whether this "Secret Society" has any actual power, or if it is all a wild conspiracy! There can and will be aspects of roleplay and community involved in this project, but the goal is NOT to create a LEGITIMATE secret society in Second life. If I were do to that, i certainly would not be posting and inviting people into the project via the Forum xD
