Alright I just got some land (rented) and I'm trying to figure out how to stream my own music through it (its stuck on Spanish music) I've tried a few links and fiddling around because googling it, all the instructions are from 2011-12, all the links are dead and the information about outside websites is outdated and its no help, I need 2017 instructions, where do I link from and how??

What viewer are you using?  Firestorm, LL, Singularity, some other one?

In LL's viewer, go to World > About land.  Click the Sound tab.  In the top text box labeled Music URL,  put
http://cabhs30.sonixcast.com:9802   This is a stream I know works.

Wait about 5 seconds and restart your viewer's playback with the little icons at the top right corner..

In all seriousness, The various SL clients can receive and decode a few formats of streaming media. For the Sound/Music channel, it can receive Shoutcast and Icecast streams using MP3 and OGG/Vorbis.  The format for Shoutcast v1 is http://address:port . For Shoutcast v2 and Icecast, the format is http://address/mount point.

For example:  My station stream can be tuned in using either format:  http://cabhs30.sonixcast.com:9802/  for Shoutcast and http://listen.sonixfm.com/8776  for Icecast.

It is also very possible to receive nonstandard formats via your media tab/channel. If the stream you desire uses AAC, which cannot be tuned in via the music channel, you can stream it using media.

Thanks for that and I hope you don't mind if I nitpick. The Shoutcast formula is actually http://domain name:port. Things that end in .com (or .net, .tv, etc.) are domains. Addresses are all numbers, like 172.68.205.80 (or even more if it's v6). The addresses are how computers actually find each other on networks.

One side note - if you are renting, make sure you were actually given the ability to change the music

  • 2 months later...

Thank you Speed and Rhonda and all, but I'm still confused.  Even though I've put those workable URLs for music that you produced in my About Land/Sound/Music URL: and close it, it always reverts to http://listen.radionomy.com/Acoustic-FM and I get a voice telling me about Radiotomy.  Even when I try to leave that blank, when I close About Land and reopen it that same URL is there.  I've tried multiple music URLs that supposedly work, but I can't get rid of that annoying voice about Radiodomy.  Any suggestions?

The suggestions given above should work.  Which viewer are you using?  There was a time - though it's been quite a few months - when I would have trouble getting the new music setting to 'stick' when I was using Firestorm.  If you're using Firestorm, are you on the latest version?  or have you tried changing it using the LL viewer?

I think you said you're renting?  If the change doesn't stay using the LL viewer, you might want to check with the landowner to see if there is anything set at the estate level that might be causing it to return to some default.   (I'm not an estate owner, so I don't know what options they have overall, but it'd be worth checking with them if nothing else works).

Thanks for that tip.  I got the latest LL viewer and used this link and it fixed the problem.
