I genuinely got no idea where you would even go to configure a 3D mouse for SL. Last time i used one was when i got my 1997 Thinkpad 380ED a few years back and had the IBM branded spaceball 2003c.

Using the 3dconnexion configuration utility, basically go through the list of presets to see which gives you the functions you want, or configure it yourself to make different interactions do different things. SL just may not recognize what a spacemouse is, so its probably finding one aspect of it and calling it a basic mouse.

This is a little old... about a year. But, it works for me: http://blog.nalates.net/2016/09/07/spacenavigator-windows-10-and-second-life/

Scroll down and you'll see the viewer settings I use.

The Axis settings at the top of the panel generally control what the mouse moves.

If you are using any other controllers... you may want to disconnect them.

I am assuming you installed SN drivers. I've had to reinstall them once.
