The never ending stream of technical problems with voicespam since it's introduction, are a MESSAGE, from the Dark Gods of the Grid, to clearly indicate that they consider voicespam an abomination...

Repent your voicespamming ways, sacrifice a noob to the Dark Gods, and enjoy a better SL...

LOL - Agreed. I think voice has it's place in some aspects of SL like education or training or teaching but if anyone like me is old enough to remember the days before voice well IMHO I think SL is better off without it. At least in the public info hubs ¬¬

I frequently run into people that severely abuse the privilege of voice. I occasionally let them know precisely how annoying they are while eating, watching tv, yelling at their spouse/children/parent, coughing up a lung or generally doing anything else over voice that most folks wouldn't care to hear in a public place (though I shan't share my methodologies)......when I visit places where people might be present, that also allow voice, of course, which I mostly avoid these days.

But, to answer the OP, honestly, this is just a quirk, not likely much you can do about it, because it does happen now and again. It could be sl acting up, or more importantly, Vivox(the voice program sl uses), it could be your system, most likely a combination of any of the above. It might help to go to a place where few, if any, people are, and test voice there(I suggest bringing someone with you, testing this alone is typically a bad idea, because simply seeing those green lines above your head often isn't anything more than indication that voice is at least partially working, not necessarily fully functional). Voice Island or voice echo canyon are good places to test, if they're still around, lemme see if I have the slurls here... (fair warning, I cannot promise these places exist, I only have the slurls in a txt file, so, they may or may not lead anywhere at all, tp at your own discretion)

If you've tried Firestorm Support group inworld and their help hasn't worked, then I have nothing to add.  I'm sure someone linked their page of step-by-step instructions:  http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_voice

Anyway, I remember when voice was rolled out in 2007.  It was a sim-by--sim thing and the first places to go 'live' were the info hubs.  A huge group gathered there to listen and speak.  I sat with my friend waiting to hear the voice of our boss at the time who we knew to be a brash, direct person by her texts.  Her voice did not disappoint.  Sure, there were people who did not want SL to 'go voice' EVER but, over time, it's become a choice (as with so much in this world).  So those who wish to voice, do.  Those who do not, don't.  No.big.deal.

Thanks to everyone to be clear I don't switch voice on in public places am sure nobody wants to hear me going about doing whatever Domestic situation I am in, including my dogs barking at anything that moves.  I totally agree that is annoying.

However I do like the option of voicing with people I have known for a long time. I have been around for a while and this is the first time voice has crapped out on me totally. In the past it was just a blip, sometimes a relog would solve it. I have visited voice canyon to test and no luck. Did clean install of Firestorm but same, no luck.

Had a of problem so it's in for tune up although it's fairly new but seems to have picked up a virus so maybe when I get it back will have more luck although I don't think so. It's more frustrating than anything as I am the type of person that finds it hard to give up have to keep trying .

There are two uses for voice:

1. So that annoying racist guy in the infoHub can say dumb crap all day long and blare out bad heavy metal in between cuts of 'spliced up hip hop' used to accentuate racist comments.

2. So that Zindra could fill up with "live girls voice and cam, $9.95" venues...

But if you really want it... check your land permissions and make sure the toggle isn't set back to "nice and sane" and is still on "I like annoying sounds of some geeky grandma breathing and snorting into their mic."

If not that... see if your mic is working in other applications, drivers up to date, etc...

There's thing like 'Discord' and 'Mumble' used by gamers that can be used to test if the problem is on your end or SLs.

It sounds to me like it's more an issue on your end, not Vivox or sl. If it indeed has a virus, odds are pretty good that something is amiss (though this isn't necessarily a typical side effect of a virus, it's possible).

It sounds like you've tried everything that would, otherwise, fix voice issues. I know voice has its issues here and there, most folks have probably experienced them at some point, or will, but that's the nature of the beast when it's reliant on an outside service. There are a lot of components that need to work cohesively for voice to function properly. Hopefully when you get your system back after having it repaired it'll function correctly again :)

  • Try logging directly into a different region that has voice enabled. Regions can have broken voice in such a way that anyone who logs in there directly will fail to have voice connect that session. A good region for testing voice is Voice Echo Canyon. You will hear your voice echoed back to you on this region.
  • Double check that slvoice is not being blocked by your Firewall or security software.
  • Try installing the viewer to a new location (for example create a new folder in C:\Program Files) & install the viewer to this new folder.  On first launch of the viewer play close attention to any popups from your Firewall or security software asking you to allow access for slvoice - allow it. Installing the viewer to a different path will nullify any previous blocks on slvoice.
  • If none of the above helps, test if you can connect to voice on the LL Voice-RC viewer from http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/5.0.8.328552. This viewer contains many fixes for voice bugs & also fixes the common bug that causes voice to refuse to connect when logging in: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-20075

Come back & let us know if any of that helps.

I got pc back and did a clean install of Firestorm no difference so there was nothing on my pc causing problems. I downloaded Singularity viewer and voice works on it so if I need to voice with someone I can use it otherwise I will stick to Firestorm as my preferred viewer. Thanks for suggestions.  I appreciate it.
