no profiles in SL using viewer 2.5

In viewer 2.5 there is no way for me to get to any profiles including my own, except by launching a third party browser, going to the SL web site, logging on to SL there,  then selecting a profile.   WHy?  What is the point of making profiles so difficult?

That is just plain stupid.  It  was much easier, much faster and much more effective when you simply clicked on the persons profile IN sl and it came up.  One simple step instead of five,slow steps.

You are not alone, the web profiles and all the problems associated with them are very unpopular. You post may be better suited to the discussion forums because there is no way anyone here can tell you when or if LL are going to do anything about the issue other than to say there are JIRAs open for lots of things wrong with them.

You need to accept cookies under the viewer preferences. For some reason if you decline the use of cookies some or most profiles will not be displayed.

You can view profiles in world. To view yours, click the profile button. To view the profiles of others, click their profile button. Like Darren said, make sure you have cookies enabled or you are going to be stuck doing it the stupid way.
