I assume you mean adult places because you can access all General and Moderate sims on joining.

To visit adult sims, you can age verify.

or if you have a credit card or verified Paypal account and live in the US, you can add Billing Info to your account via your Dashboard and get account verified as here http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Accessing-Adult-land-and-content/ta-p/805975 This is as good as age verified apart from a few age verified only sims.

If you live outside the US you will have to purchase Lindens from the Linden Exchange link on your Dashboard and input credit card details when asked. Paypal is not an option for non-US citizens at the moment.

In the General tab in Preferences (CTRL + P), set your preference for Rating :

"This setting allows you to choose what maturity level of content you are able to access inworld. You may only find search results and access regions of equal or lower maturity than you select here. In order to select General, Moderate, Adult, you must first verify yourself as an adult."

Are you over the age of 18? if not you may only visit G rated areas and you are also only allowed to view G rated material on the Marketplace.

And I may be wrong but it is becoming increasingly clear that most of the question being asked on this Answers forum is from new teens. All the questions being asked which we never used to see before seem to be coming from the teens. I hope I'm wrong.
