Hiya Zoe here

Having looked at lots of reviews I ended up getting the "Orange Nova Human mesh - Nauha" avatar / body. I'm really happy with it and want to stick with it.

It is my understanding that this is a 'mesh' avatar, which is the newer type, and that clothes should automatically fit to it (to an extent, although body parts might need to be adjusted to stop them showing through - am I correct here?)

However I have found that with some clothing I have bought - when I click "wear" it replaces my WHOLE body with one that seems to be bundled with the clothing.

Other items have just worked fine.

Yesterday I tried on some shoes and it replaced the rest of my body and outfit. The shoes when unpacked were a single item, not a big list of sub-items.

- What is going on here?

- How can I tell which clothes will do this?

- Can I avoid the problem? e.g. By doing something other than "wear", like "attach to..."?

Maybe related: Some items such as dresses have maybe 3 sub-options one of which is usually "Maitreya". Are these different sizes or styles? Or are they intended for specific body designs?

If so then I thought that the mesh system made this unnecessary. Confused about this.

How can I tell if something is designed to work with my 'Nauha' body? Just trial and error?

Thanks, sorry for sort of 2 questions in one but it's sort of the same problem (confused about clothes!)

Zxx

Welcome to the forums zoelamb!

Try "adding" clothing items rather than "wearing." There are limited places to attach things to your avatar and when you click "wear" the system takes off the old thing and puts on a new one, while "adding" does just that, it adds to whatever is there.

The sub-options like "Maitreya" are different sizes designed to fit well on different bodies like Matreiya or Slink. Each particular mesh body has its own base shape and clothing made for one or the other should fit best with that. It's always best to demo items to see how they fit -- lots of trials and fewer errors that way!

In short, there is no standard measurements for mesh avatars. Maitreya does not fit Belleza, that does not fit Slink, that does not fit Nauha... and so on.

This is because Linden Lab has not listened to us residents, we said that the over 10 year old default avatar was not good enough. LL employees is not interested in their appearance, they are working when they log into SL, and does not spend time on avatar looks.

So every mesh body creator does their own thing.

It is confusing. I agree. :( "Maitreya" has become the most popular female body, so many designers create only for it, and a few other bodies. This is why you see Maitreya sizes so often.

The only way to be sure something fits, is to try the demo. Even for clothes that say they fit for x body. Because it depends on the clothing makers skills. There is no quality control in SL, so anyone can start to create and sell... This is really good, but you don't know what you get before you try it on.

I am not familar with Nauha. Does the information say that they have layers that work with Omega appliers? If it does, then the clothes that is based on Omega Appliers should work.

Basically it's a basic human mesh body, all in one type, feet/hands/head made by a company that specialises in Furry avatars, supposedly theres an omega kit for it.

Chances of any standard mesh clothing fitting it are probably questionable, so appliers is basically it, supposedly slink shoe compatible.

Just for fun, I tried out the Nauha demo. It has a decent set of alpha cuts (better than most) and responds well to shape settings (within its range), so you should be able to fit a lot of standard-size mesh clothes with some adjustment of your shape and alpha cuts in the HUD. The feet do not seem to match the major mesh brands (Slink etc.), but the foot size is adjustable and can be alpha'd, so you should have luck with some shoes as well, especially ones that can be re-positioned. For each outfit, make a copy of your body and your shape, so you can adjust them once individually for each outfit.

There is an Orange Nova Omega relay on the Marketplace (it's cheaper inworld if you join the Omega group), which claims to work with Nauha, so you should also be able to use lots of applier clothing too.

You just need to "attach to" a different body part. If your avatar is attached to the hips and you put on a pair of pants that also attach to the hips, "wearing" them will replace the item. This is particularly bad with the I believe right hand, as this is the default attachment point for all objects, and non-savvy sellers don't always change that before they sell the item.

Another example of this is that I've started wearing mesh socks under my shoes. I might attach the socks to my lower leg and shoes to my feet, so that accidentally wearing one doesn't replace the other. As for as the mesh is concerned, it doesn't matter where it's attached to, since the rigged bones deform and move it, regardless of where you attach it to. Thankfully, this is something you, as the end user, can do, and all it takes is just deciding where you want items worn.
