0 Nyll Bergbahn
Age verification was introduced in 2007 and is handled by a thirdy party company Aristotle, not Linden Lab. http://www.aristotle.com/content/view/228/139/ You'll find more information in Linden Lab's press release. http://lindenlab.com/pressroom/releases/08_29_07 Age verification is entirely voluntary and you can still use Second LIfe without going through this process but you will only have accesss to General and Moderate areas. If you have a credit card, you can adult verify instead by adding payment info to your account by buying Lindens from the Linden Exchange. If in the US you can also use Paypal and you don't actually have to buy Lindens. This will give you access to virtually all adult areas bar a few age verified sims. 0 Irene Muni
Aristotle, a third party provider. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Age-verification/ta-p/700021 This information is transmitted securely via SSL to our age verification systems provider and cross-checked against pre-existing databases of public record to verify that you are of legal age. Our verification provider assesses the consistency of your provided information and returns a match code; at that point, your account becomes verified. The entire process takes less than two minutes, and is available internationally. Our verification provider only uses information to provide a match code and the only information stored by Linden Lab is whether or not your information matches public records. Absolutely no personal information that is supplied for the automated age verification process is stored or otherwise retained by Linden Lab or its verification systems provider Aristotle-Integrity. We keep only an indicator that tells us whether there was a positive match for the information you have provided.
0 PeterCanessa Oh
Your call, if you don't trust it, don't use it. You won't be missing anything by not visiting a few places or adult results in search. The big point is that those are the rules Linden Lab applies and what we, the residents, think is not something they care to discuss. NB: "we. the residents" - this is a residents' forum and not a means to communicate with Linden Lab - DO NOT post your details here, then the whole internet would have them! (I realise you probably wouldn't but, just in case ...)
