Usually the best way to start out is to contact the creator, check their profile to see if they ask to be contacted in a specific way, some prefer note cards, others prefer IM's.  Then make sure to include the transaction details of your purchases and a description of the problems you are having.  Try to stay calm and respectful (even though I know it can be highly irritating when we waste money on things that aren't working), being nice and calm and giving the benefit of the doubt gets way more help than making a creator feel like they are being attacked (even if they are in the wrong).

It's usually good form to give 24 to 48 hours for them to respond, since most people have a busy RL.  If things don't get resolved to your satisfaction you can always flag the items if they are indeed advertised incorrectly.  At the end of the day though, a creator may or may not give a refund and LL rarely gets involved in resident disputes, but, if the items are advertised incorrectly they may pull the item if you flag it, but, please give the creator a chance to fix the problem first.  Most are really nice and helpful, if you are nice to them as well.

One additional note for future reference - if an item is Transferable, do not delete it as the creator will likely want it back before issuing a replacement or refund.

You will almost certainly not get a refund.  Even so, you should send a polite note to the creator and explain why you found the product to be unsatisfactory.
