I cant find out what my avatar name is

I cant seem to find out what my avatar name is to login, I cant use my username becuase it tells me to use my avatar name

Your avatar name and username are the same.  You should login as karpre

Edited to add:  If you are using an older style viewer that requires a first and last name,  use Resident for the last name

If the login requires 2 names on your viewer, you need to use:

First name: karpe

Last name: Resident

Karpre--what they are saying is to sign in using karpre as your first name and the word 'resident' as your last name.

no, but yours is.
People who signed up (roughly) before 2011 .. some a little earlier, depending on what portal was used, have a first/last name

yes around that time

with the remark it wasn't everywhere where you could sign up was changed the same time, it was worth looking at several portals and get a legacy while the official LL portal already gave out only resident names. I'm not sure those different portals are still around, or all links lead to the only LL sign up page.( of course without legacy names )

In the old days, during the signup process you were asked to pick a last name from a list, and then come up with a first name.  If the combination wasn't taken, that was your user name.  Your user name was your ONLY name.

In the current system, no one has a two-name user name.  At signup, you come up with a unique, one word user name.  You can also create a "Display Name", and that can be changed once a week.

Because a lot of legacy devices expected a two-name user name, LL also assigned the last name "Resident" to everyone named under the new system.  Depending on the situation, an avatar named MalaniMonroe might enter MalaniMonroe.Resident or MalaniMonroe in one box and Resident in another box, or MalaniMonroe Resident (without the separating period) or simply MalaniMonroe.

To add to the fun, LL has said that they're working on bringing back last names.  However, we don't know when this will happen, or how the New and Improved system will work.
